KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Need to post to 'prove' I can resist buying Stuff (as I have bought a few things for myself this last month!) - in Iceland today there was an offer of 2 tubs of Stork in a rather nice baking tin. Hmm, a tin size I haven't got.....all for £2. A bargain. I thought about it, realised that i), I am not baking atm, ii), my fridge is tiny and 2 tubs will take up a fair percentage of the space, and iii) I have no space for another baking tin. I stepped away from the offer!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0

Well done MMF007 - it's a good feeling, isn't it!
Glad I'm not the only one who is SICK of Black Friday adverts, emails and catalogues. It's a load of rubbish - there are very few real bargains, and if you buy something you didn't need then it's not a bargain! I'm fed up with it, and the whole Christmas 'show your love by buying lots of presents' attitude. Bah humbug.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
slinky - having a chuckle at the sensor in your coat as I've just had a coversation with DS1 about putting an app on DH's phone so I can check where he is!! Not that I think he's roaming its just when he's working on the boat for me sometimes there's no - one about & if he had an accident no one would know cos he doesn't always have his phone on him. I was getting concerned last week as he was later than he said but he'd stopped off to see a friend of ours. I'm not really a worry guts but accidents happen when you least expect them!!
Bit of a flaw in the plan, Silva, if his phone is left at home. Perhaps an implant would do it?!
DH had me worried yester. Got a text saying, Call me asap. I Panicked -assumed some crisis. Rang, engaged, txt to ask What, no response. Panicked more. Several mins pass, finally a call. 'Can you pick up x while you are in town?' What???
I had words with him about better comms in future.
Tidying needed here today, been a bit neglected this week (embarrassed to say). The final touches to bathroom decorating will be done, too. I am pretty sure some random kondo-ing will magic itself into schedule, it usually does on Friday:DI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -

I have kondoed the internet between 9am and 5pm :rotfl:In other words I have banned myself from itIt is working and I am getting so much more done now and the postman never sees me in my dressing gown ever now as I am dressed and ready to go just after 9am
(Which is good for me )
Still on the train and not getting off for a while I hope.
Good luck to everyone avoiding the 'Black Friday' carp another one here who hates it.

MMF - I meant he'll be working on something and leave his phone in the car where he can't hear it - or get to it if he's got a problem!! Another vote here for a black Friday free house - what a load of old cods. Still clearing random stuff - I've a lovely round metal galleried tray that I must have had for about 15 years and I've never used it so it's going to the CS. DGD going to kondo my roots for me today so I won't look like a bag lady when I go to a Christmas lunch with some friends tomorrow. Have a good day all xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Silvasava - I can't imagine for a minute you'd look like a bag lady!
My dad has a LONG list of jobs for me today. Including writing up the plan for his service. He's chosen a poem for me to read - Tennyson's 'Crossing the Bar' which I read at my grandfather's funeral. Not sure it'll be quite so easy this time.0 -
There are certain words in email titles that ensure I delete them unread. Those from ticket agents mentioning performers I loathe. Father's Day. Mother's Day. And this week? Black Friday.
As I'm in That There London later today, will be going to Tate Modern. Get me some art...

Well I've Kondoed several minutes of my life this morning onto a BT call centre in India. Phoneline is playing up, dreadfully crackly, caller display not working. I reported it on Wednesday but couldn't get around to testing the line at the master socket until this morning, as it's behind a dresser full of china and 'stuff' in our hall. So this morning I put the ornaments in boxes, pulled the 2 drawers out and shifted the whole thing forward so I could get behind it. Tested the line, reported the problem again, engineer coming Monday on the threat of £130 if it turns out to be my equipment. Hey ho, it needs sorting and I'm fairly sure it must be rain got into their system somewhere.
Kondoed fluff, spiders webs and a spider from behind the dresser. Also spotted some stationery from a hotel we stayed at on our honeymoon in the drawer....... we've been married 10 years. Tore the letter paper in half for scrap I scribble notes on in my office, and the envelopes have gone into the office drawer for use up elsewhere. What on earth was I keeping this stuff for!
Whilst the dresser has been moved, I've told OH that we'll empty it out completely and move it to the garage. I want to upcycle it by painting with some chalk paint. I'd planned on doing this after we repaper a wall in the hall, but since I've had to half empty it anyway, I'll try and complete that job sooner. Was going to go out and get some paint but OH has banned me from going anywhere near the shops today with the bunfight it will be. It's a particularly bad road layout by our local B&Q, the prospects for accidents are enormous.
OH did say, why don't you look online to see if we can get replacement Denby as we've got a chipped plate. I pointed out the plate in question is one of 8 (there are 2 of us here) in a size that doesn't get used often, that it's not worth wasting our money on. It did remind me I need to find more mugs of the style I like as I've broken some, but this requires searching ebay as they aren't made anymore.Make £2025 in 2025

Kondod a box of random stuff from my kitchen dresser along with another carrier bag of books, in the porch ready to go to the CS on Monday. I need to move said dresser tomorrow to drill a big hole so it seemed a worthwhile task to take everything off, wash it and pack it away (it will be transformed into my Christmas dresser next week - yep, I adore Christmas and start early)
Will be kondoing a big chunk of savings tomorrow morning as DD2 passed her driving test today and we'll be getting car insurance tomorrow - it's a good job I've mentally detactched myself from the money as it's an eye watering amount.
Have decided that my cordless vacuum doesn't bring joy, it's just not up to the job that my old one was (I tried going cheaper when the last one died). With a lot of cats and a very messy parrot alongside a job that creates a lot of mess I need something that won't cause me to morph into "sweary bob" every time I use it. DH had the sense to just order a new one and tell me it's arriving on Sunday and that he'll clean the other one up and sell it on - it's a good little machine if you're not trying to cope with shredded paper, bird seed, feathers and cat fur tumbleweed balls. Quite joyous to have someone else just sort it out for me for a change. I must have been really sweary."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Afternoon all.
Have been busy today but did some reading before going to work (an historical mystery, very engrossing) and caught up with the last chapter after work and am about to slip out to the library to return this book and see if I can get the other one by the same author.
I find I get a little twitchy about Stuff and want it out of here asap it's finished with.
Have bought some eggs and some apples today, other than that, my purse has been firmly closed and absolutely no desire to go acquiring more Stuff to tend, shuffle, dust etc etc.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
