Great posts GQ, you've inspired me to keep going.

A few more toiletries have gone today. The charity bag has been added to by DH and DS.
I got to the bottom of the ironing pile. My much loved organic bedding is getting quite threadbare. We've had it for a number of years and it's certainly given us joy. Looks good and feels good. I will need to think about replacing it in the coming months.

    Stay warm and safe.

My dad only has a few weeks left to live. He's now starting to clear out after years of resistance. Unfortunately due to the effects of the cancer this isn't actually logical... However, as he can't cope with discussion we're agreeing to everything and will sort it out ourselves afterwards. He wants to make sure he doesn't leave too much for us to deal with, and we're trying to make sure he isn't worrying too much.

Friends keep calling and asking if it's ok to accept offers... We've told them to say yes to everything and then we'll sort it out with them afterwards.

Greenbee, I'm so sorry to read this - I've been there with both parents. I think your agreed approach is definitely the best right now, to ease any unnecessary worry for your dad.

    Big hugs,

Oh Greenbee, I am sorry to hear about this very difficult time for your dad, you and everyone who loves you both. Try and take care of yourself. ((((0))))

Today's little adventure was to begin the wallpapering. I needed to do more prep than I thought but it's always worth doing it properly. As we all know the prep and clearing up afterwards can take as long as the actual job, can't it?! :rotfl: Of course, part way through a friend rang and chatted for a good while as I sat fidgeting...

Eventually I started with the trickiest bit, allowing me to work towards one corner where the paper needs to be put down first so the second wall will be papered into the corner with invisible finish
(ie, won't catch the light that way round).

The ceiling height varies and is 'wavey' (house is nearly 200 y.o.), there is a beam, and a very deep window recess, oh yes, there is also one drop that is only doable at full stretch sideways. I now have a stiff back:(

I am an amateur and so it takes me ages!

Anyway, first wall done and atm the seams are invisible:) Am pretty confident they will stay this way!

Working all day tomorrow and taking my friend out on Tues morning but hope to complete papering during Tues afternoon and poss late Weds.

The paper is fab, really makes an impact even though it is sort of plain (no pattern, just a bit of texture), coppery bronze colour. oh, sounds awful, check here if you really want to see, only mine is coppery so it's darker -

The bottom drawer of the set of drawers has been kondoed; maps and daytrip brochures are neatly packed in two small shoeboxes in the study. Stuff from middle drawer has been added to top drawer for dh to sort out.
Bills have been paid and hand shredded, paperwork from both schools has been processed and discarded, freezer emptied of a few ingredients and filled with a few meals (progress...), tickets bought for musical Little Red Riding Hood, and we went ice skating today. After years of struggling I soooo enjoy being able to do these things without paying too much attention to the budget. I happily eat cheaply in order to afford days and evenings out; I love seeing people perform live and hope to pass this on to my dds.
Dds and I are involved in the church C-play, which will show them how much time and effort, and fun and friendship, and generosity, go into these things.

ETA: sorry to hear about your Dad, Greenbee.

Greenbee - was wondering this morning how you were - so sorry to read your news.

  • Greenbee. Sorry to hear your news. Just coming out from lurk to say. I'm sure - for what my opinion is worth - that you are doing the best thing. x
