Hi :) I have been reading about how hard you are all working, and it is making me smile. I feel so good to have done a marathon clear out myself recently:) and I understand how good it makes you feel.:) I too was looking around for the next lot to sort through and it is definitely addictive :) Well done to GreyQueen on your weight loss and to all the other lovely folks here too. Plenty of real joy here and it is so nice to know:) I am feeling happier within myself since beginning and will make life easier for my dh and I. I have not been wanting to shop online at all and feel good at that. I have placed an online order a few days ago for some lovely plants and pots though and that will be happiness for me as I love my garden. We are growing vegetables and strawberries and hoping they do well :) I am getting great joy from that and my knitting and reading my books. The simple things in life eh? Margaret xx oh and of course this lovely place is joyful too

:) Lovely to see you posting here, margaret54. And as a keen gardener, I very much understand the thrill of new plants.

Finished a book today and just reached up and put it straight into the waiting donation bag. I automatically do this with things which I have finished with now, not keeping them for an interdeterminate period before a periodic clearout and donation spree.

It means that I will have owned this book about 5 days, and read it, before it is released into the wild to entertain someone else.

My joyful pink sandals have had a baptism in a summer downpour and are presently drying out. They're not the kind to take any harm, being rubber and nylon strapping, so I'm not phased.

Was talking to the parents just now and they have a patio which is rapidly filling with water in the downpours, and I have a small lake outside advancing across the walkway towards my flat. I'm unruffled as I don't have any carpets and could grab up my rugs in seconds.

I observed to my Dad that when things get tough, the less precious belonngings you have to worry about, the more relaxed you can be, and he agreed. He's been bordering on mimimalist his whole life.

I vividly recall one time when I was in my early teens and Mum and I were getting ready to 'go shopping' and he asked what for and we said 'we'll know it when we see it!'

Dad's idea of shopping is very utilitarian; you identify that something needs replacing due to wear and tear, you go out to buy another one, and you buy it at the first shop you visit if the price and quality seem reasonable to you.

What you don't do is go into every blessed store which might sell the same kind of thing in one or two towns or cities and comparison-shop and fret about miniscule differences in styling or small variations in price.

Actually, by only buying what you need, when you need it, you save a lot more money than a supershopper who is out all the time cruising for bargains.

:o:p In middle-age, I've turned into my Dad, shopping-wise. Lately, I'm buying very little that isn't food and that suits me just fine.

    MUSIC MAGPIE UPDATE

I 'sold' my items on Sunday afternoon and parcelled them up. My local co-op is a parcel collection / drop off point, so I left my parcel there Monday tea time. I had an email today to say that my parcel had arrived and was being processed, followed by another email a few hours later saying that they were paying me the agreed amount and it will be in my bank via BACS transfer by tomorrow.

I'm pleased with the ease and efficiency and plan to make further use of them to streamline my media collection.

You have to sell a minimum of £5 worth of goods. Most of my DVDs were around 20-30p each (compared to 1p each offered by CEX). You can choose to either have a courier collect your parcel from a place of your choosing or you can leave it at a local parcel hub, both are free.

    Welcome Margaret54, it's great, isnt it?! :D
    Thanks for the feedback Pavlov'sDogs.

Massive thunder storm, hail, rain seeping under the door, drumming on the roof... Thankfully DH home safe (he works outdoors). Found myself crying when the news broke about Jo Cox, so very very sad for the family. :A

Hope my MK buddies and families are all safe tonight,

Reading all the successes about low/no carbohydrate diets I have been looking at how much carb I eat :eek: I don't think I could do no carb but I'm definitely going to cut down a substantial amount & see how I go. Must admit I dont have any specific health issues but my energy levels are not what they could be - we shall see.
    ...:rotfl:
:) Most of my carbohydrates are in the form of vegetables. It is very very hard (excluding spuds) to over-eat on veggie-carbs, you'd be munching them from dawn to dusk, and who has that much spare time?!

I've read that if you just remove bread from your diet and make no other changes, you'll be taking about 300-400 calories a day away, which would cause weightloss in most people. It really is a ridiculously easy diet to follow and I don't believe I have ever eaten so much fresh produce in my life, and I do feel much better for it.

Yesterday evening, I picked up a book I paused reading about a week ago, and then stopped. I love this author and have devoured everything else of his I've read (which is basically everything he's written :o) in 1-2 days but this one just wasn't doing it for me. I swithered then thought s*d it, life's too short, and put it into the donation bag. It came from a chazzer a couple of months ago and will go off to another one this weekend.

Today's plans are working and, if this rinse cycle of thundery showers deigns to stop, a quick trip up to the lottie and a dump run.

Happy Kondo-ing, one and all. GQ xx

    Morning kondoers.
I've just stood grinning like a loon through my front window looking at the pile of 20 (yes 20!) bags full of card and paper waiting to be collected by the recycling men. It is an awesome pile that has been in the main clogging up my roof space for a number of years and serving no purpose whatsoever ever. I spent an hour this morning running some stuff through the shredder and that made it outside as well.
I can safely say I'm dealing with my paper category. The attic is a mess and still looks full but that becaus I've got it all spread out rather than piled on top of itself. But even now I can see pockets of space appearing.

A carrier bag of kimono is going to school with me for the school fete.

I might not be losing weight from my body but I'm feeling so much lighter now the junk and excess from my home is shifting.

    Have a joyful day all.

Awesome is the only word! :T

20 bags is truly amazing. Especially with it having been moved out of the attic - it must feel much better now without all that pressing down on you. :T

Re: carbs - I've cut out the really dense carbs, but weetabix for breakfast seems to suit my body. Not hugely worried about an occasional slice of toast. I'm much more full with the extra veg so am no longer snacking on carbs and have less chocolate cravings too :)

Still occasionally finding things that can go, some passed on to friends and some to the CS. I have had to make an unwelcome purchase. My cats are being bullied by a neighbours cat, so I now own a small water pistol and am testing various citrus oils to see which the bully dislikes most and my two don't mind

Amazingly, I immediately found a space for it to live :D

20 bags of paper! MrsM that's incredible! Go you :)

Hi :) So it isn't only me and my dd who feel lighter after sorting out stuff and getting rid of it :) I really believe we feel cluttered in our heads when we have so much stuff and getting rid is a great feeling :) and it means we can enjoy what we keep and actually see what we have :)
