Hi everyone and welcome to newbies.

Brilliant day yesterday - not only weatherwise, got rid of 3 large bags to CS - including - wait for it - one of the largest bags full of new UNUSED mens' pants from DH. They had filled an underbed drawer and gentle hints and woo obviously worked. Also a small bag full of unused embroidery items to a specialist CS shop.

It does feel so good. Getting there, getting there ......

    Afternoon all
Had a very productive time at mils, tidied her ottoman and bedroom drawers, 4 CS bags, 2black bags of rubbish and a bag full of paper and card recycling. I could have pushed for more as I don't honestly believe anyone needs 18 summer weight cardigans, 17 pairs of pants and 19 bath towels but we got as far as mil was happy to go at this stage.

GQ: could you house two laundry bags in the machine? A dark for darks and a white for lights? That way you could divide the laundry immediately and save yourself the trouble of sorting through a big pile come washing day.

Both cats are subdued today. Worrying.

My OH is working away from home during the week at the moment. We've got these he sorts his clothes into for whites and coloureds which makes whipping them out of his bags and into the machine on a Friday night a pretty painless task.

I've had a bit of a mixed day so far. Got the shopping in for our weekend guests visiting, have been batch making ice cream (horrid job, you wouldn't want it, involves some licking of the paddles, before washing them up for the next batch......). I managed to Kondo the dregs of a horrid bottle of ouzo we bought in Santorini in 2008 as the icecream machine needs some alcohol between the cavity and the mixing bowl. This ouzo was horrid, nasty, tourist stuff, anyway it's gone now. The next alcohol sacrified to the machine will be some whisky given to us by an old neighbour 12 years ago, bless her she must have passed away by now, she didn't drink but was a regular at Church, this bottle has so much sellotape round it, it looks like it's been through half a dozen tombolas before she gifted it to my OH.

I also managed to accidentally Kondo a project. I had an energy saving lightbulb in our hall which cost £10 in 1991, one of the real old big ones. I've been wondering when it would give up the ghost. Unfortunately in dusting the lampshade the bulb dropped out and broke all over the hall carpet. So it had 25 years use, we can but guess how long it would have lasted. Its twin passed away many years ago. So much cursing and cleaning of the hall has taken place.

Next up making lasagne so I can shove it in the oven easily tomorrow when OH is nearly home. And more cleaning.

Just nipped in attic to get a bag of ornaments down and grabbed a bag of paperwork while I was there, stuff from around 2005 that wasn't needed anymore so it's all been shredded and put in recycling.

Got to nip round mils with a message from the Drs now as they've just rung me re her prescription review.

One small load of old stuff to the tip. Youngest dd enjoyed going up the stairs and throwing things in the right skips. We discussed 'metal', 'wood', 'hard plastic', she knows quite a lot at age 4!

My goodness me, everyone is so busy! I have done 5 hours paid cleaning and helping today (including polishing some lovely furniture and completing a blue badge app for a lady who struggles to walk further than the end of her drive - I had got the telephone number for her to ring to apply but she does not hear too well and thought it would be too difficult).

I took some recycling out with me and, er, bought it all back again! Completely forgot to got drop it off, doh.

I love my collapsable washing basket (crate) but would happily use a re-useable shopping bag as suggested by someone earlier.
On a similar theme, I checked with my mum why she had warned me about taking care not to scratch the sink (inducing me to buy a sink mat type of thing) and her answer was , 'well that was I was always told'. That is her stock answer to every random bit of info she passes on, always with great certainty, but often completely (how shall I put this?) MADE UP ! :rotfl:
So my apologies for trying to lead some of you down the garden path. I should also say that she gets apopleptic if anyone approaches a pan with an ordinary, metal spoon, for fear of scratching
it (bit of a theme here!).

Intend kondo-ing a bit of paperwork (well done Milasaves :T) that has been waiting a couple of days to be dealt with - don't want it getting slovenly, sitting round, doing nothing!

    Enjoy the sunshine folks,

    M
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

I'm strict with books as well. My general rule is that it gets 30 pages to grab me, and if it doesn't, I stop reading.
All the books I buy get passed on to my mum. We have very similar taste, so I know she'll often like the stuff I've liked. But our taste is also just different enough that she'll sometimes like stuff I couldn't get on with. Then once she's done with them, they end up on the book stall of her yearly village fete.

No kondo-ing for me today, but I'm hoping to attack the cupboard under the sink at the weekend! I know there's cleaning product in there that dates back to the day I moved in nearly 5 years ago!
Because it's fun to have money!
