Yes my mistake...only 1.25% on AMEX (besides the anniversary month).

i think than_prutt was meaning to quote me re. this.
as mentioned by w211, they are the tiers on my card.

like derelyth says, i don't find acceptance bad at all, and 'just using it' rather than asking is certainly the way to go to increase usage. there is a detailed thread re. spending on Amex here:

along with Sed, i'll be looking out for don's update:lovethoug

It sounds to me like Barclaycard have upgraded you to the Cashback duo card, so you'll get a AMEX card (1% cashback) and a visa card (0.5% cashback) with your Experian score that will be updated once every 60 days.

It just sounds like the advisor you spoke to just hasn't been very clear to what product he has switched you too.

Also everyone gets their Experian score for free with Barclaycard now, it doesn't matter which card type you have. If you log in to mybarclaycard online, you should be able to request your Experian score now, even on your platinum card.

    Hope this helps! :)

Interesting what you suggest....I don't know how such a 'duo' card would work. Are you suggesting it would have AMEX 'and' VISA on it? Would I have to choose which one to use on any one occasion?

Whilst he did mention VISA, he didn't specifically mention AMEX at all.
Though as you say, it may be because either he was being economical with the truth, or just didn't fully understand it himself.

If this is what it is, it probably won't be worth holding on to.

You'll receive 2 cards 1 being an Amex card another being the Visa card which can used everywhere, where Amex isn't accepted.

Their both linked to the same account and only receive one statement when created.

Wilkco is right.. that account has been discussed here in detail.

there was talk of something more from Barclaycard too though, so i'm hoping you actually have more than the 'duo' account en route don:lovethoug

Full marks to Wilco123 and others !

It seems they ARE sending me Visa and AMEX cards :-(

I think the advisor I spoke to was truly ingenuous, and am rather angry!
Not once did he mention that he would be sending me TWO cards, never mind that one of them would be an AMEX card.
Indeed, when asked why I was trying to close my Barclaycard Platinum card, I explained that I was reducing the number of cards I was holding, and that I had an AMEX card paying my 1%.
So he knew I already had one and STILL did not mention it!

I haven't received any cards yet, but today received a letter explaining that my 'Barclaycard transfer is going ahead'.
This letter I feel is also mis-leading.....I have read it carefully and it never clearly states that I will be receiving TWO cards!

    Extracts from the letter:
"On the back of this letter there's a brief summary of the changes that will take effect once you begin using your Barclaycard Cashback card."
(Notice the singular 'card', not 'cards' plural!)

"Your new Barclaycard Cashback Card. Card type: VISA and AMEX"
(Again, use of singular 'card', and not clear whether 'VISA and AMEX' means TWO cards! I somehow thought it might be a single card with both AMEX 'and' VISA on it, but practically I couldn't understand how it would work.)

So...my hopes have been dashed :-(
These Barclay cards offer me no (practical) advantage over the use of my existing AMEX and ASDA cards (plus my AMEX gives 3% cashback in the anniversary month, although there is an annual charge that will eat into this).

The again, I have a nice £18,000 credit limit on my existing Barclaycard (although probably too high), and I wonder whether a single statement would be better than my current two.....
    Decisions, decisions......

sorry don, but mine with yours:wave:

i wouldnt consider closing your Amex if i were in your position, but if i finish up with the 'duo' being the best Barclaycard account available to me i might take it, cut up the Amex, and just use the Barclaycard Visa as a 0.5% back up Cashback card. on those merits, perhaps it has a place. not sure how it compares with Freedom Rewards...haven't had to crunch and understand that yet:think:

    Thanks planteria.

But I already have an Asda card paying 0.5% cashback. Asda has a £5k credit limit versus £18k on the Barclaycard. But I suspect even the £5k is too much.

Am weary about the amount of credit I have available, when I next go to apply for a 0% balance transfer card. Although I currently have the HSBC for something like 3 years, so probably won't need another for a while.

fwiw i would rather use a Barclaycard than an Asda card, especially with a view to building up history for Balance Transfer Stoozing activity.
that said, Barclaycard's current policy of issuing no additional accounts make working with them more difficult.. but they still could be good for repeats:think:

Oh well, that's a shame..I guess sometimes things are too good to be true..

Thanks for keeping us updated on the Barclaycard!! Just use the Visa one instead of Asda I'd say.
