The newspapers at this time of year have articles giving expert predictions of where the FTSE 100 will be in 12 months time.

Are you brave enough to give your prediction of where the FTSE 100 will end the year in 2016?

Using my excellent skill and judgement, I confidently predict the FTSE 100 will be 6950 on 31st December 2016

If anyone wants a laugh. Here is an article from 12 months ago giving expert predictions for the end of 2015

I predict Oil next year will average $55 a barrel & the big energy companies will rally

Not so confident but depending on China, I think miners will bounce back in 2016.

Lastly, I believe fairly confidently the big banks will do well in 2016. Lloyds share sell off, possible interest rate hike & an end of PPI claims in sight, 2016 will be a good year for the banks.

So my prediction, FTSE will be 6950 on 31st December 2016

Better to work out how to get one of those analysts jobs paying six figures or more to come up with a speculative figure, though to be fair most will come up with a meaningless assessment of individual shares that can cover both a rise and a fall.
  • Last night while joining hands round a candle at midnight, it was revealed to me that the FTSE100 will close at 7409 on 31st December 2016.

5900-6000. I'll buy into an index tracker when it drops below 4k again
    Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
    Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)
  • I will bet my first born that it will be exactly 6000 on the nose.

People seem to be guessing. Why not appply some investment science? After much study I have been able to develop an equation that predicts the value of the FTSE100 index at the end of each year:

    FTSE=5.1944444*x^6 - 356.3923*x^5 + 10078.5*x^4 - 150316.5*x^3 + 1246681.9*x^2 - 5449939*x+9813388.9

where x is the last two digits of the year.

Extensive back testing for the years 2008-2015 (30th Dec) shows that it is accurate to within 1 %. So I can confidently predict that the FTSE100 index at the end of 2016 will be 17026.

    I predict a riot! ;)
'I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my father. Not screaming and terrified like his passengers.' (Bob Monkhouse).

    Sky? Believe in better.

Note: win, draw or lose (not 'loose' - opposite of tight!)
