I am sorry I do not agree!
I do not buy really expensive face creams and I know that some are made
from the same factories but Astral and E45 bring me out in hives and sores and
Nivea and Simple simply do not work!
I am a big fan of the Loreal Revitalift Range (particularly the Age Perfect Range
It is often on offer to around £8 usually £12.
It has made a real difference to my sagging menopausal skin and I always use a serum underneath.
Loreal is part of Lancome so you get all the expertise for a fraction of the price!
I would agree with you, Nivea, ponds & astral can't be compared with medium range skin care.
I use high end, I love the experience, that's my treat, it's my luxury - other people might spend the cash on going on or a subscription to something, mine is cosmetics & skincare.
But I know that there is not a vast difference between high end & mid range.0 -
I would if I could Kim Kim
I look longingly at Chanel, YSL and Dior Counters etc
Never mind maybe one day0 -
As a teenager I got hooked on Clinique products. However I noticed that in the winter months my face would get dry and sore in places. To remedy this I used to steal my mum's Nivea (regular body one) and that always sorted it. I eventually stopped buying the clinique moisturiser and just use the Nivea body stuff which is about £1 a tube from cheap toiletry places. I'm now 29 and while I know that isn't old, people often think i'm younger. U
Unless you have a sin condition I really don't see the point in spending lots of money. I still use the clinique liquid soaps but a large bottle lasts me 6 months and i'm often bought it as presents so it's very rare I buy it. Rarer still is paying full price as I stock up ifIi visit the states.0 -
The basic cream is an emulsion of fat and water. The cream is made by the mixing of both, adding fragrances, antioxidants and preservatives. A lot of the cosmetic companies will use the same core of fat and water, however the type of fat chosen will differ depending on cost and stability. basically any oil and water mix will moisturize by acting as a barrier.
However, personal preference is a large issue as what works for one will not for another. Certain creams will use SLS, often cited to worsen Eczema for may individuals. Wax based creams are terrible feeling but still a decent moisturizer.
Personally, I consider Guerlain and Estee lauder to be excellent products, the creams are effective and very wearable. I like to use retinol and lactic acid, oils and tend to have skincare holidays of doing nothing. My go to product rosehip oil is really good- I really adore it. Ironically, I find oil alone is absorbed faster than the cream emulsion that can sit on the skin like muck.0 -

I mix and match with moisturisers and am currently using one by Nivea. I cleanse with olive oil and use rosehip oil and a sensitive skin moisturiser. I am early 40s with olive skin and people think I am anywhere from mid 20s to mid 30s. I have always looked after my skin from being about 12 shown by my nan, however think genetics plays a major part alongside lifestyle.
I have tried high end moisturiser bought as gifts but couldn't see the difference in my skin
AlphaH is something that I think I might try in the next few years.0 -
I used to use the huge Clinique bottles and actually found them extremely good value as they last ages, however they played havoc with my acne prone skin and some of their products stung so much I couldn't bear to use them any longer.
I can't stand the smell of Elemis, Lancome didn't do much for me...to be honest, the only "high end" range I've got on with is Keihl's but now all I use is pure jojoba oil and a flannel! dampen my face, massage in warm jojoba oil (sometimes with a drop of tea tree if my skin is playing up) then wash off with a warm flannel. My skin has never been better! The bottle costs £6 and lasts me 2-3 months and works as a makeup remover, cleanser and moisturiser!
One thing I do splash out on is makeup. Most of my makeup is MAC, apart from NARS highlighters and blushers and quite often I'll buy a Max Factor mascara as they seem to function better than some MAC ones and are a fraction of the price.0 -
I use Clarins Super Restorative serum, Day and Night Cream and my latest acquisition the neck cream! However, I receive it from my nearest and dearest for Christmas presents. When it runs out over the year, I will use Boots No. 7 or L'Oreal revitalift. I'm just hedging my bets, as I am not convinced paying more makes any real difference. Genes and not putting your face in the sun is far more important.0

After reading about it on this thread I decided to give the Boots A and E cream a try and bought some today. We'll see how it goes!0
