When I was making bath and body products I did a lot of research and testing.
The expensive products are no better than the cheap ones and the ingredients cost pennies per item. Those £50 jars of cream cost the same to make as the cheap supermarket ones, but it's all down to the marketing and packaging.0 -
Cheap own brand baby wipes to clean off what make-up I do wear and then Simple moisturiser. Much more and I get terrible spots/skin reactions.Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

Great thread RD.
I just recently changed my facial regime and ditched the expensive products. Now I wash my face in the shower using a microfibre cloth, not too much rubbing, and use facial oil as the moisturiser. My face has never been as smooth or as nourished.
The first oil I used was W****se pure facial oil but I can't get it anymore, not sure if its been discontinued. I've got some rosehip oil which I'm using up and then will try almond oil. I have rosacae which makes my face sensitive to highly perfumed stuff.
My mum used Ponds cream too, slathered all over at night though she didn't leave it on all night like some women did.
Back to basics and keep the pennies in our own pockets and not on our faces!0 -

Indeed, and for anyone sensitive to petroleum I recommend plain old margarine such as "Pure dairy free". Like the expensive creams it contains water, oil, and emulsifier.0 -
Hi Rainy days, definitely agree. Used to buy Clarins/Clinique but now use a facial brush daily then moisturise with anything to hand, sometimes even body lotion. My skin looks great, also a big user of SPF.2012 Saving challenge £1000/£400! Woo! :wave:0

I've just remembered something I used to use when I was making stuff. It was orchid oil in a fractionated coconut oil base.
It was a lovely light oil and smelled wonderful.
So, I've had a look at my old suppliers but can't find it. The only thing similar that comes up in a search is a version by Clarins, at a lot more money than I paid for it, and my bottle was a lot bigger too!
I might post on my old soaping forum to see if anyone knows if you can still get it.0 -
Oh Angels OBS Rainy-Days I love that. Haven't used it in ages. I used to like their babyface (I think) to remove make up but discontinued.
I mix my regime up really. I sometimes use soap and water, olive oil, daily exfoliator (using Neutrogena at the moment but it has a obvious fake chemical feel afterwards and I don't like it) but like honey and sugar as the best scrub.
I have used Astral before, it was ok but thick. My fall to night cream is Nivea dark blue pot but after a while I do feel like I get break out so change it up a bit. The last change was to Olay and much to my horror (grandparents used Ulay etc) I really find both the day and the night cream drying.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do next but I will look for the Boots A&E. Would the cold cream remove eye makeup?0 -

The Cold Cream took the remainder off, but for the first clear through I used plain old baby oil! Seriously, and it works, just need to get rid of the excess oil, which the cold cream does. Never tried to cold cream on it's own - so maybe thats something I should try out!
I thought it was me with the Astral and the breakouts, but it is probably too much for my skin which is combination (oily T zone and then dry cheeks), which is probably why the Boots product works so well.
I am going to use a tip from one of the contributors to the Boots section with the Cold Cream then use a hot muslin cloth to take off the excess. Very Cleanse & Polish without the high price. So sick of paying out good money and now realising that it's just hype.
I love Lush's bath bombs its just that they leave the bath a bit of a messI haven't seen Baby Face around for a long time now, but Angels works well for most because it's very natural.

You cannot stop natural ageing. You need a good sun screen as well at least 30 spf on the face every day all year round. Take makeup off properly. The earlier you start as a teen the better. Some started using Palmers Coca Butter as a makeup remover as it was all over the place. Then they broke out in spots.
I cannot use cheap unfortunately, mild roseaca does not like thick creams which are petroleum based. Boots No7 breaks me out, but Marks and Spencer own brand is fine. Even expensive stuff can break me out. Clinique I wouldn't touch. To be honest the brands mention are not expensive. You want expensive then its £100+ a pot.0
