Depends on what an individual considers expensive though donnac dontcha think?

For me anything over £5 enters the realms of expensive face cream.

The thing is Donna, I was spending this just on face creams then on top of that was serums, toners and Cleanse and Polish so you start adding it all up and it gets over the realms of £100.00+! I spent £95.00 on a pot of Elemis in Debenhams and it just did not even work.

It's pretty sobering to type this down for me and realise my serious error in this and especially so when Gigervamp has confirmed what allot of us thought - it's the same base stuff!

BTW Fuddle I recall my Mum using the Cold Cream to take off her mascara and it did work, but I don't think it was the waterproof versioon mascara, which seems to need an extra amount of oomph to remove it!

I use Clinique moisture surge, which is AMAZING! I've had the same jar of it for about 6 months now and it's still going, and i moisturise twice a day.

I have incredibly sensitive skin and all other moisturisers i use make my face burn very badly.

That said, as a cleanser, i use the Nivea Cleansing mouse and its brilliant too.It only costs about £5 :)

I've tried the Elemis cream, I didn't rate it.
I'm a high end junkie. It's not just face cream.
It's face masks, exfoliators, cleansers, toners (complexion cocktails/glycolic acid now a days), serums, day creams, night creams, neck creams, eye creams.......
The list is endless, I do have good skin & I'm nearly 50.
Plus it makes me happy, these products bring me great pleasure to use, they are a pleasure to use.
    I'm happy with my investment.

No only have I a habit for high end face stuff, I have a habit for high end body stuff too.

While I don't love Elemis face stuff, I love their shower gels, bath milks & body lotions.

Oh & shampoo & conditioners - I spent £60 on a hair conditioner yesterday!!!! It was a large one, Philip Kingsley elasticizer.

I'm still getting my antiperspirant & Batist dry shampoo from boots though, lol
  • I love Boots glycerin and rose water toner, it's very moisturising. I find other toners very drying but this one is great

That is a blast from the past. :T :) I have got some toner but it isn't that one.

In my experience Aqueous cream is very nice and Nivea for Men. The reason I know that Nivea for Men is better (for me) than Nivea is because my OH got a Nivea for Men gift set for Christmas last year and refused to entertain moisturiser so I used it. I could actually see the difference.

My big habit / expense now is my hair :o I go to my hairdresser every 2-3 months and have spent a fortune this year getting a full head of highlights (now on my 5th :o) and silver toner to blend in my grey  Hence I spend on specialised "silver" shampoos, conditioners etc

Reckon I'll be another year and I'll no longer need to highlight.

Touch of Silver shampoos and conditioners are available in Home Bargains if you have one near you. I use it for preserving my (madly expensive) highlights.

Aldi expert day cream suits me just fine.:)

I never wash my face with soap and water as I find it makes my skin feel dry and tight. I use various cleansers/facewash. Currently it's one from Superdrug that comes with a muslin cloth.

    hi rainy days
I must admit I was a serial face cream buyer- spending a mint and getting nowhere. Then I switched to the "well it is all the same stuff " philosophy a while ago- using body lotion all over 9including face and thinking well it is moisturiser. But was never hapoy with the state of my skin.

However I have recently had a bit of a revelation. It came in 2 parts!
    1. I started using a glycolic cleanser on my face at night (dermaquest) this removed a lot of debris and old rough skin. I was told I must use a moisturiser after it
    2. As the dermaquest moisturizer was v expensive I searched on ebay and amazon and found youth express vitamin c moisturizer with peptides and hyaluronic acid

result is absolutely fantastic. I love the moisturizer so much I put it on my husband! instant effect really great (on both of us) and does not leave you greasy so excellent base for make up (not that he wears it!)

But I would ay that I would not be getting the good results from it that I am without the glycolic cleanser.

just hit 50 and my skin is better than it has been since my thirties!

Prep is key I think to getting the most out of some of these complex face creams
