This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Elona i am thinking of you. Hoping you are safe and warm.

Not sure what today will bring though i do know ive got my Grandson overnight. :)

  • Good morning, I have been woken by loud weather! I am sure this must be nothing compared to what people are experiencing in other places, in the Midlands we tend to escape some of the more extreme weather conditions.

I will be spending some time with a friend later, not sure what time precisely, other than that I have no proper plans, lovely state if affairs really, dread going back to work.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Wind whistling down the chimney, but positively tropical here compared to our poor friends in the north X

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Still dark here, very blustery but dry underfoot. Kept hearing the wind howling round the house during the night.

DH up also - I'm showered and dressed as I'm working today. He's enjoying first cuppas of the day. Boys still in their pits and will be for a while yet.

Dinner last night was roast chicken, HM potato dauphoise (sp?), brussels, carrots and broccolli, DH moaned as soon as he walked in, didn't want this didn't want that then said he didn't want anything, within 5 minutes decided he would have some chicken and potatoes but then wanted some salad and pasta salad with his - he's moaned in the past few days when I've said why don't we have a some salad after all the rich foods etc. What he had would have been heavier than the meal that we had - he had rich pasta salad where we had steamed veg! I haven't made any real plans for todays' dinner, so who knows what we'll finish up with. We're going out this afternoon when I get back from work.

Yesterday I got to the bank and building society, then did a bit of food shopping, called in at MrL spent more than I wanted but did get the bits I needed. This afternoon on the way home I need to stop off at MrT and get a couple of bits - as I've offered to make a cheesecake for niece's get together for her birthday - which is on N Years Day, it's a bit early but the only time where we can all get together.

Only working until lunchtime so won't be too bad, we're not normally to busy at this time of year - we'll see.

    Keep safe and well x

I managed a reasonable night last night and didn't wake until 6.

The fish have been fed the WM emptied and the washing hung on the maiden, the DW is chugging away, hubby has a cuppa in bed & I have one beside me.

Judi, I hope you have a better day today.

Hugs to Elona, Floss, Csarina, LW & Rosy.

Hubby is off out today for a drink with his brother, he will probably arrive home well bladdered and with any luck go straight to bed. He spent yesterday afternoon/evening in bed as he has a sore throat!

DD came round to collect the travel cot and she was worried about how I'm coping with hubby in his present state, my kids & grandkids all adore him, she was concerned as she'd heard me mention divorce last time she visited.

I was able to set her mind at rest by explaining that I don't want to divorce him, I just want to murder him (which is normal occasionally in most marriages I believe) it certainly made her feel better.

Neighbours of ours are getting divorced & I think that's what she heard me talking about.

I'm off to check out the flylady thread and see what my tasks are for today, I have my cojo (crochet mojo) back and started a new blanket yesterday, I will do some more this afternoon AFTER doing housework.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning all. I don't know whether we have escaped the worst of what Frank has to offer, or whether there is worse to come. Yes, It's been wild and windy all night but, so far, not much rain. ELONA and ROSY I hope you stayed safe through the night.

I have been up and down the stairs like a damned yo-yo most of the night. The IC turned out to be yet another UTI starting and I have been dosing myself with painkillers all night. The a/b the specialist gave me have been having no effect so I will ring the surgery, yet again, when they open. I don't know if it's me but I'm sure they just think I'm being a damned nuisance. I just wish someone could hit on something that works as they are dragging me down now after all this time. Sorry for the moan.

We had a nice day out yesterday (before the uti struck) It was such a nice day, with blue sky and sunshine, we thought we would get the bus to Skipton for lunch. Not a market day but boy was it busy! I suppose cos the sales were on. We had a browse but not tempted by anything. I just stocked up on some more fruit and veg from M & S, as the freezers are still well stocked. Enjoyed a Steak Day lunch in Spoons as our favourite eatery was packed!

Have a good day if you can and stay safe if you are in the way of the storms. (((HUGS)))) where wanted/needed. FLOSS and CSARINA you are having such a long wait for the funerals my thoughts are with you. Take care all xx ps welcome to more newbies!

    Good morning everyone

Wow what a windy night, the wind was howling around our windows and doors and the letterbox keeps banging so I gave up on sleep and came downstairs. Max was so pleased to see me as he doesn't like the wind either. There is no sign of the cat yet as he went out last night, hopefully he will turn up in a bit.

My heart goes out to all the people affected by the severe weather. Hope you all manage to stay safe and warm.

Today is the day when me and my hubby do the freezer inventory ready for the new year. We don't have very much money to get us through the next few weeks so we will be heavily reliant on our stores. I think I am going to have to be quite inventive as the weeks draw on but luckily the family aren't too fussy. We had a discussion yesterday about favourite and least favourite meals. Turns out everyone except me hates cous cous so I won't be making that again :rotfl:. I now have a good idea what meals to make this month.

Hubby has offered to cook tonight so I would like him to make toad in the hole as I just can't get the batter right when I have a go at it. Hubby makes yorkshire puddings most Sundays so he is well practiced. That will use up the last of the Christmas meats that were leftover as we have a pack and a half of chipolatas. I finished off the last of the turkey in a sandwich last night and was quite pleased to see the back of it. The gammon got made into soup and a quiche and the bacon was cooked for breakfast yesterday. We do still have quite a bit of cheese but it will all get used up this month.

My decorations are still up although we took the cards down yesterday. I think I will take the tree down today as it has been up for a month already and I have had enough of it. Still no sign of my storage crates but I will bag up the tree decs just for now.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Good morning everyone.

The storm raged here all night, wind howling and rain battering against the house. No floods here though no doubt some roads will be waterlogged. I read that the main road was closed because of a fallen tree. Apart from a very long diversion (66 miles each way) everyone is safe.

Rosyred - I read your post last night with horror. I'm so glad that you're both safe.

Elona - hope you made it to your DD's place last night and are OK.

I went out first thing yesterday for some veggies. The greengrocer had the smallest possible cauliflowers - more like baubles for the Christmas tree than anything else.

Last night in bed I decided a few things, best time to think clearly! I'm going to cook something new once a week. I've a load of lovely cookbooks and only ever read them, a new one arrived yesterday too. The act may turn into once every ten days but nevertheless I will do it.

I'm also going to go somewhere new / different and (interesting) once a month. Some things I've already planned are a longer journey away and some are closer to home. A new museum, a new play, a guided walk, a free tour of places, a free talk and so on. I've worked hard to be able to have so much free time now so I'm not going to slob around.

The house renovation took up so much time and money but it's now 99% done so now it's 'me' time. OH has loads of 'him' time so I'm not hanging about anymore waiting for 'us' time to reappear.

Now I feel more settled. Oh, I do love my bed on these horrible mornings, I may just stay here a little bit longer.

TA - so sorry to hear you're still having it rough.

I hope everyone manages to stay warm and dry.

Very windy here this morning but not damaging gusts. The clouds in the sky are racing but thankfully none of the wet stuff is coming forth - yet! I have to say it is very very mild outside there are buds on the trees waiting to spring forward.

Not going anywhere at all today. I have put the dogs washed towels away and had a tidy up. I shall probably get my long black boots polished later on as I have worn them quite a bit these last few weeks.

    Have a peaceful Wednesday :)
