Am assuming you get asked for proof of income if applying for the Advance account...I applied for the Basic and was asked what my income is but didn't have to prove it.

I applied for just a standard current account.

I think personally they are just being picky or over cautious.

That would be an incorrect assumption, at least in my experience, as I got the Advance account and haven't had to prove anything. That said, my income (as declared on numerous application forms) has been fairly static for the last 2-3 years, so maybe that helps (since there are no inconsistencies on the fraud prevention agency files)?

I believe part of the credit search is checking the declared income is inline or close to what you've declared previously, so perhaps those that have been "called into question" have an income that is significantly different to the last time they applied to something. Only guessing, I'm somewhat new to all this :) but with a programmer background these kinds of things seem a little obvious.

I've applied for various things last year with the same income that I applied to with HSBC. My income has stayed in relatively the same over the past 3 years increasing incremently each year so it's not the case for me.

    Hello,

I'd quite like to get the advance account as much for the 6% regular saver as the switching bonus. I gather that HSBC can be quite picky and I don't earn the £1,750, I'm £3-400 off. Is there any point in me applying considering that I'm buying a home in the next couple of years and I could do without any black marks on my credit file?

    Regards,

    Chris
  • It didn't work for me  I think they manually check each new account.

Just to add to the saga of opening a current account with HSBC and getting the £120 switch incentive:

My account was opened 3 weeks ago after I took my ID in to branch. However, when I visited my home branch a couple of weeks ago with my ID again to commence the switch, they told me that they didn't know how to do it! They told me to phone the Switch team from home.

So I called the Switch team and a switch date was arranged. When I called the Switch team again a few days later, they said that they couldn't proceed with my switch because my ID documents hadn't been received by their Processing centre. They said they would need me to go into branch again with my ID! Because of this delay my switch would not be completed within the 30 day deadline.

I was furious and raised a complaint. They offered to pay me the £120 switch incentive, plus £100 in compensation, which I've accepted. They managed to locate my ID documents at the branch that had opened my account. They are now being sent off. What a palaver.

My recent switch to Halifax, on the other hand, took 3 working days and no visits to branch or phone calls to receive their £100 incentive.
    Please call me 'Kazza'.

My other half applied for the HSBC account on 30/01 - received a letter today saying it has been accepted and to sign and return. It also has her customer number, sortcode and account number on it.
  • Hi

just seen this offer. Not looked through Ts and Cs yet. I have a first direct accoun which is in the same group. (A bit like Yorkshire Bank and Clydebank). Would this make me still eligible as I have already taken advantage of their incentive back in 2013.

    Thanks

Yes, the Ts and Cs specifically say you can have had 1st direct and M&S accounts and still be eligible.

I'm now 13 days in, I received a letter asking for signature a few days after applying, which I returned. Since then... nothing. I phoned up yesterday to chase it up, nice lady tells me that the account is set up and that someone from the switching team would call me. I re-iterated about the account being set up after which she said "I am 90% sure it will go through". Quite different!

I then had a short ring on my phone, perhaps 3 rings after which it ended, which wasnt enough time to get to the phone. The number is HSBC but it's a robot message.

I call again today, very different response, no security questions and was told that that the person I spoke to yesterday wouldn't have asked me them because the account isnt set up yet. He also then told me that i'd need to go into a branch with ID to move things along. Problem is I cant get to a branch this week and I'm on holiday next week. After which I'll be over 3 weeks in...

    Starting to annoy me now!
