How much should front discs and pads cost? Fleeced by Kwik Fit

Did they show you the old pads and discs? They may have lasted another 20,000 miles and still pass an MOT after that.
Always shop around and don't trust KwikFit, always get a 2nd opinion.
Commenting on what Mark the Shark put....
I was in a similar position, lot my job and started doing more mechanical work which i previously only did for family/friends at the weekend.
I did one for a friend of a friend who then had me doing jobs for his family members. After a little while he said they had come into a bit of money and could put a lot of work my way.
I said the same, if i had premises then i wouldnt be able to pop down the scrappies and get a used part for £10 and charge them £20 to fit.
Prices would have to increase to the same level as other garages.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Probably twice what a local mechanic would charge, but local mechanics don't have huge HQ overheads and TV adverts to fund.
That said I was very happy with Kwikfit last weekend. Puncture on a Sunday after Boxing Day, I'm 250 miles from home and only have a skinny spare. Kwikfit in the nearest small town was the only option open and they repaired it for £20.0 -
He has been posting on the thread all night not just following you about.
Well, yes he had been on this thread earlier, but even then his second post contained reference to bigjl even though they hadn't posted anything. Then when he does BykerSands jumps straight onto it trying to get a bite.
Have a look at some of the other threads on here and it is obvious that BykerSands has, for whatever reason, some sort of problem with bigjl and is trying to wind him up.
It's getting quite boring now, at least DM's trolling was occasional amusing.0 -

I'm glad to see you know him as Julie too. :T0 -
This justification because of their OHs and HQs is utter carp. Op got screwed, it's as simple as that! When a main dealer is cheaper you've been had.0

Not sure he got screwed he does have to bear some of the responsibility. Ask the price pre work perhaps and haggle?
My alternator failed on my V50 last Christmas. The dealer wanted £260 supplied and fitted. A bit of a(friendly) haggle on the phone and he did it for £200.
Another good reason to find a local garage you like and build up a good relationship with them.
Aside from that this panic buying at a high price is a good reason to do considered preventative maintenance. Batteries, brakes, wiper blades, tyres can all be bought at a good price if you shop around. I mean quality items too.0 -
Yes definitely my fault as I should have just walked away and not paid it I was just taken by the apparent urgency of the work and got it done.
Rang my nearest main dealer this morning and was told they charge £189 for the same work!! Sickening doesn't describe it.
Won't be making that mistake again.0 -
I know that someone (you and me) has to pay for the complimentary cappuccino and choccy bickies, but main dealers are not the rip-off merchants they used to be.
They are not stupid and are keen to keep cars within the network - so frequently have 'special- deal' prices, especially for non-current models.
Main dealers usually also - as in this thread - have fixed prices, whereas in my experience the local garage charges less per hour, but often takes longer, especially if rusty or seized components prove to be a problem to dismantle.
I think the lesson for all of us is always to check with a main dealer before shopping around any indie alternatives.0 -
