How much should front discs and pads cost? Fleeced by Kwik Fit

Fair point. I am surprised though that I've been had for way above even main dealer pricing. Considering I (wrongly) assumed these places were good for reasonable work cheaper than the main dealer.
It could have been worse. £60 for a lesson learned. Had you taken them up on the £30 mot offer it could have been £300 worth of work that didn't need doing.0 -
There are two specs of discs/pads listed in EuroCarParts.
Discs £42 or £32 each (Pagid) So £84 or £64 a set
Pads £41 or £32 a set (Pagid)
So parts could be anywhere from £125 to £96
Unless you can use Extra10 which gives 10% off.
You could for them yourself as it is simple enough.
A mechanic would take 60/90 minutes to change the front discs and pads.
So anywhere between £40/80 really for labour depending on where you live in the country.
Some garages may charge a bit more for fitting.
But the job should be in the £200 range if you car needs the more expensive discs and pads.
Note that the retail prices of the discs and pads was significantly higher than the EuroCarParts prices above.
And a garage is entitled to charge retail price for parts.
They don't legally have to price match EuroCarParts.
And most jobs on a car are in a big data book and garages are allowed to charge book time.
If they can get it done quicker then they make more profit.
A garage is a profit making enterprise with overheads.
The only way to save money is to do it yourself.
A Vauxhall dealer would have probably charged a bit more than KwikFit0 -

Wrong again, it's already been posted they are £59 cheaper.
How do you have time to post all that crap. It's Christmas party season and people want cabs. No wonder uber have taken work from you.0 -
What else did they do i wonder, have you checked the receipt carefully, did they change the brake fluid whilst doing the job and/or strip clean and lube the rear brakes at the same time.
For reasonable quality parts i'd expect to pay anything from £90 Mintex upwards, you won't get those prices from a part fitting centre so i too reckon you've paid £150 labour, unless other work was included.
Expensive, well not cheap by any means unless its a VXR or they used a brand idolised by the baseball cap and designer brand crews such as EBC/Brembo.
Not a company i use, nor any other fast fit mob either, you ask them for a price and they come up with some number from thin air, get a much cheaper quote from an indy in the same town and suddenly they can match it...oh no you won't mate once you've proved yourself trying to turn me over thats the last time i'll ever darken your doorstep.0 -
Fixed price front or rear pads and discs £249 from Vauxhall so cheaper then Quicksh**0
-
Oh look.
That's a change
Within a few minutes my stalker BykerSands is posting up right after my post.
He has real issues0 -

EuroCarParts are now stocking Brembo
They seem to be a little bit cheaper than Pagid.0
