Our tv has Freetime, which is usually a satellite service, but is accessed by aerial, on Panasonic tvs.

I think it's the new name for freeview and nothing to do with satellite broadcasting.

    Nonsense.
There is no new name for Freeview.
Freetime is a completely unrelated Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) available to viewers of Freesat and is indeed everything to do with satellite broadcasting.

Freetime is to Freesat what YouView (and now Freeview Play) is to Freeview - integrated catch up/on demand services from the internet along with the standard programming from either the aerial or the dish.
Your TV may have Freetime, but I really don't think you're using it unless you've got it connected to a satellite dish. Maybe you're just using the on-demand part. Just makes it even more confusing!

I agree. It's also not a feature of all Panasonic TVs. I imagine the poster may have a model of TV with a built-in Freesat tuner...

My tv is Freeview (apparently Freesat, too, I've just discovered ) and has Freetime (normally needing a dish) which does not require a dish;just internet.

The Freetime is definitely a catchup service and is peculiar to certain Panasonic models.

Ours is a 650 model and anyone doubting my statement should read this link http://www.techradar.com/news/television/tv/new-panasonic-smart-tvs-will-come-with-a-dose-of-freetime-1233619 or Richer Sounds' site.

No one is doubting you. Your TV has (as you have discovered) a built in Freesat tuner, so it's hardly surprising that it also comes pre-loaded with Freetime. You say it only needs to be connected to the internet, but it's full functionality is only realised when it is also connected to a satellite dish.

It's definitely not the "new name for Freeview" though! :)

We prefer Freeview to Freesat, as the former carries Dave which my husband watches, so the only required functionality, in addition to Freeview, would be the catch ups, should we no longer have Sky and revert to the old Humax. (Haven't actually tried the Freetime or 3D and voice control functions, but bought the set for picture quality, it's appearance and price )
