Mortgage Application with a CIFAS Fraud marker
Comments
-
I've got a CIFAS marker on my credit file, however I was a victim of fraud. Someone took out 2 iPhone contracts on my Mobile account. Every time I apply for credit most applications get immediately refereed by the lender as they want to make sure it's definitely me applying. I applied for Barclaycard and the called me and asked loads of questions to prove identity. The application was approved a few hours later.
I can have the marker removed but I feel it's an extra protection it just means credit applications take longer. Is there any option to get your marker removed?0 -
There's a big difference between your case (A4445) and Grayze1980's in that you were a victim of fraud and they were the ones committing fraud.
They won't be able to request the CIFAS mark is removed as rightfully so it's there to warn other lenders.I am a Mortgage BrokerYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Broker, so you need to take my word for it.

Agreed. I think Grayze1980 will have CIFAS on the file for at least 6 years and any requests for removal will be more than likely ignored.
Grayze1980, please don't provide any more false information when applying for financial products from now on, as this may quickly go out of hand. I know it's like rubbing salt in the wound, but you have a job in London and £250k in savings, which implies that you have a very good job. Why did you think you have to falsify your earnings? Was it an 'advice' from some financial broker? This happened to me before, luckily I didn't go down that path.0 -
Someone has already suggested buying! £250K can buy you a 3 bedroom house on the outskirts of London! You are then saving a mortgage which will more than compensate your travel costs! I live in Romford, have a 3 bed house which cost just a little bit over £250K0

Agreed, it is doable.0 -

Are you suggesting that the 6 years might not be the case? I only asked as I managed to going a telephone number for CIFAS and asked them the question directly. As you can imagine hey we're not happy about receiving the call but advised me it was 6 years.
The majority opinion seems to be six years, and I would expect that to be correct (although I suspect they NEVER delete anything - just archive it after six years). Why was the CIFAS clerk not happy with you calling? Your best bet is to hit both CIFAS and National Hunter with Subject Access Requests, and send one to the mortgage provider that grassed you up as well.
Regarding your £250k, is it possible you could put it in someone else's name?0 -

Whilst not completely impossible, good luck finding a lender that will accept that you're gifting someone a quarter of a million pounds without getting it back or holding any interest in the property...I am a Mortgage BrokerYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Broker, so you need to take my word for it.
