Mortgage Application with a CIFAS Fraud marker

When applying for council housing you must declare your income and any savings.
Of course. But how might they find out if you didn't? Local councils do have unfettered access to the CRA's credit files for a whole host of reasons, but as noted, assets are not yet included on these files.0 -

Yes, the items of rumour, hearsay, fact and speculation on a CIFAS listing last for an inordinate amount of time.0 -

You woud be surprised how much data councils can access as they collect council tax and business rates and process benefit claims.
Many councils won't even consider you to be added to their housing waiting list if you are on a high salary or have savings above £30k - and in London where the OP lives they have to be choosy as they have limited stock.
Frankly if you have £250k in savings you won't be a priority and won't even be considered as you can afford to rent privately and pay a market rent.
Yes you can lie - but if you get found out you risk eviction and more.0 -

Given that the OP is in the position they are because they falsified information when applying for a mortgage I'm not sure it is a particularly sound idea advising them to falsify yet more information. Are you suggesting that they also lie about their employment and general income as these will also be considered when apply for Council housing. While they're at it they may as well claim benefits, none will ever know.
OP - please don't matters worse for you and your family by falsifying information to get a Council property. If you go too far down that route you could end up being housed at Her Majesty's pleasure.0 -
OP - if you haven't already, might be a good idea to find out if these people also have information registered against you.

Again thanks for all the advice!
I have also sent a SAR to National Hunter which I am waiting on. I am confident I will feature on their system too.0 -
Hi GingerBob,
Are you suggesting that the 6 years might not be the case? I only asked as I managed to going a telephone number for CIFAS and asked them the question directly. As you can imagine hey we're not happy about receiving the call but advised me it was 6 years.0 -
It remains for 13 months but can only be removed by the lender who applied it, and they can extend it if they believe the fraud is on-going.
I wouldn't be falsifying any more documents, as suggested above, anymore.0
