  • Is there anything in the co-operative terms and conditions that states you can't have another student account with another bank? I already have one with Natwest but I want another one with co-op. Oh and i'm not lazy, tried searching online but can't find an answer.

    Cheers.
  • ok firts a warning to those of you with/considering hsbc - they've recently chenged the terms on new graduate accounts (to which you'll automatically be moved when you graduate) so that the interest free overdraft goes immeadiately (you can stay overdrawn, but it'll cost you), so you'll need to move accounts swiftly or have the money elsewhere to pay it off when you finish your studies if you don't want to be stung. Lots of other new graduate accounts give a grace period (i'm with co-op and still have 12 months on student terms & conditions now I've graduated) or step back the interest free part of the overdraft gradually.

To move my account to co-op and get all the benfits (ie overdraft) I had to sign a transfer mandate for my previous student account, other accounts are allowed, but it seems not another STUDENT account. hope that helps.
  • Does anyone know of a bank that will provide a student account for someone studying part time postgraduate degree.
I gradauted in 2004 and my undergraduate account is closed.
Plus any other options of assiting with finance for post grads would be ideal.
My fees are paid but it’s the cost of living which is tough, even with ML’s tips
  • ive got my student acc set up with barclays, with a 200 overdraft ( as i havent recieved my student loan yet ) once i recieve that ive been told i can increase my od, subject to t&cs. i havent got the best credit rating, i was wondering if it is likley to refuse me the overdraft? as ive always had my barclays acc's in credit and my loan payments will all be going in there
  • I've tried on several occasions via telephone to transfer a student account to HBOS only to be told I cannot open a student account with them if I already hold a student account! The brain-dead moron on the phone insists that one must first close the existing student account, then park your money under a mattress or similar while you wait for their account to open. This knuckle dragger fails to understand that one cannot close an account which is currently in overdraft (as most student accounts are).
I fail to understand how these idiots get and keep their jobs and also how HBOS has got such a reputation as a good bank for students!
    Help anyone?????

  • I would just like to say, don't bother going with Natwest for the so called interest free overdraft or anything for that matter. I'm currently a student on her year abroad and recently just found out that I've had two letters from Natwest (sent to my home in England) stating that I must pay back my overdraft. If I do not, they will have to claim it back and issue a formal notice that will affect my credit rating.
I would like to add that I was only £263 overdrawn and I was entitled to be up to £1000 overdrawn. I really don't know what to do, they've really scared me even though I'm sure that what they've done isn't right. Since, when I signed up to my Student Account, I was told that I had an interest free overdraft available until I graduated. And I haven't graduated yet. So I feel conned.
Is there anything I can do? I'm really worried :-/ and I'm not going to be able to get back to England until the 20th of December. I've managed to pay off £250 already but it's hard having to go through my parents on this one.

What do you guys reckon? I'm sure that they weren't allowed to demand that I pay my overdraft off in one go like that?

I had to go to Barclays as for some reason when I opened a Natwest account they closed it days later saying they did checks as per terms on account and found adverse information, even though I didnt have or ask for an overdraft just wanted it as I am from Scotland and have a Clydesdale account and the nearest branch is almost 200 miles away.

RBS turned me down HBOS turned me down, HSBC turned me down, CO OP turned me down, and for a laugh I asked my Clydesdale bank tp give me a £2000 overdraft as I currently have £2500 saved and they did so!

Yet I cant get credit elsewhere apart from Barclays
