Hi Jihm666
It's the Mortgage Free thread for people wanting to pay off their mortgage early.
I can't retire until my mortgage is paid off, & I'd really like to retire sooner than later.

Elona have just seen the bridge collapse on BBC news, how dreadful. I am sure that will mean months of detours.
Stay safe

Hi all,
Hugs to those in need, inc Floss,Csarina and Elona.
Our internet hasnt been working but sorted now.We were flooded out on Boxing Day,the cellars of all the cottages were completely filled and about 9 inches on the ground floor throughout, the park up the road was like a lake and it just washed down the road like a river till it got to us at the bottom and the drains couldnt take itwe were wading about hip height in the road. When it started lapping at the front step DH & DS put the suite on the table ,pulled the carpet up and put that on too,and took the wooden doors off,so it could have been much worse.
The water started pouring down into the woodland across the road and caused a landslide,my DS had a very lucky escape as he was stood on the pavement when he saw a tree across from the house start to move & just yelled to us & the neighbours RUN.More ground gave way so the tree is resting half on the pavement and halfway down the landslide.
We were trying emergency services and getting no answer, eventually they said the nearest crews were E Midlands. We have had no help from the council or anyone, the only response was the day after when they came to put barriers round and shut the road. Our local councillor has been to visit this morning but only because one of the neighbours knows him and rang him.I would have thought at least some emergency engineers should have visited as the road is a danger.
AND breathe....sorry about the long post,I think I'm getting it off my chest :eek:Just panicking about Storm Frank now.The water has gone from the houses now-it emptied fairly quickly once it started to flow over the woodland, and we've cleaned up as best we can, just trying to dry the place out now,all the rubbish is piled out at the back.I think our road will be shut for months too.I could cry for DH after all the hard work renovating this place over the last year but at least we are all safe ,some:A was def looking after DS.x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Had just posted when all the lights and electrics went off. I was able to use the light from the laptop to see where I was going and check the circuit board. Everything seemed fine so I looked outside and all the neighbours were in darkness and street lights were out.
Looks like a power cut. Managed to find my way upstairs and find a lantern/ torch that worked and get myself to bed. Phones don't work either so might look our an old landline phone for the future.
Power just came back on and got a phone call from older dd and sil saying they were on their way to see me as they had heard people were being evacuated because of the flood and gas pipes being broken. Bless them they are determined to rescue me!!
Hugs to all."This site is addictive!"

DD and SIL just arrived to check I was all right and have gone to try to find out what the evacuation zone will be.
If I have a choice I would rather go and use their spare room tonight than be evacuated by the army to the grammar school. Ideally I would be outside the evacuation zone and be able to stay at home.
If I end up selling the house at the end of January and get another one bought then the removal men will have a challenge as the one I like is at the other end of town but is also even further from the river than my present house.
Seems DDs have been phoned by all their friends all over the country saying "isn't that where your Mum lives?" Is she safe"
Hope I can stay home but don't want to take chances with a gas pipe problem either."This site is addictive!"

Rosyred, how dreadful for you all after all your hard work, thank god you were all ok though xxx
Elona, stay safe, I think maybe you should go to your dd's anyway just to be safe xx
Everyone else in that area stay safe xx0 -
Hope your house is safe ELONA. What a worry. Mr TA said it showed the bridge in Tadcaster getting washed away on Look North. And Rosy too - how devastating for you. But you are all safe and that's the important thing. Let's hope Frank isn't as ferocious as we are being led to believe. No sign of him here yet but I understand he is due through the night sometime. We had a run to Skipton today and the fields from Cross Hills are well under water. It was like driving through the Lake District. Fortunately the sheep looked safe enough, having been moved to higher ground. Hope everyone in Frank's path stays safe. xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream.
