  • Hello all long time lurker looking to join you all.

I would love to be more old style, my Granny was and I think I have more of her in me than anyone else in the family. She was a fantastic baker and I (without being big headed) the same, or so people tell me lol.

I am married with 2 kids and have the most adorable puppy.

We have just moved into our forever home and while it needs a major makeover (work has already begun) I need to keep an eye on funds and I think being more old style will help with that plus we aim to pay the mortgage off in 10 years.

Santa brought me my much wanted kitchen Aid and in 5 weeks my fabulous new kitchen with huge gas range will be fitted.

My aim is to cook as much from scratch and to start teaching both kids how to cook, I'm sure their future husband/wife will thank me lol

So today I have taken mince out the freezer and chicken to make dinner. DH works 12hour shifts so takes a cooked lunch with him and he is sick of microwave meals which I am afraid we have resorted to too much lately with the house move upheaval. I will also make a pot of veg soup to do lunches over the next few days.

Thanks for all the good wishes folks, it means a lot. Funeral is not til second week in January so things are on hold until after then.

We had a quiet Christmas with just DS2 & his fiancee to stay on Christmas night. Me & DH got out first thing on Christmas morning to walk down to the front & check that all 3 piers were still there, it was lovely & bright.

Think we're on leftover beef tonight, I'm in work so DH is on catering duty!

    Welcome Nymphadora....Love the name.

The day is not going to plan. I'm at the garage with hubby. The window has dropped down and won't go up. Only had the thing a few weeks and it's dropping apart already. Hopefully this repair will be under warranty as the rest were.

    Afternnon everyone!

After reading through some of the previous posts I am glad that it has been an uneventful Tuesday. I am sorry to read of losses at this time of year, which makes it harder to bear!

I had two loads of washing out on the line first thing and have just not long brought it in. Mostly all dry and it's just airing off on the clothes horse! Another couple of loads saved from the tumble dryer :)

Nipped into town to post something that I had sold on Christmas Day on fleabay! Came back had a cappuccino and then drove to Sainsbob's! My life the car park was rammed. I parked the car quite a walk away - which I don't mind - then got back and a car was waiting for my space as I was loading the boot up!

Got to say not huge amounts of food was going through the tills that I could see more top up shops if you get my drift!

Binmen were here nice and early and the waste bin was rammed full. Vacc'ed through the house did some odd jobs and thats today nearly over and done with!

    Afternoon all,

No rain here yet, is getting very dark and wind is rising, so it would appear that Frank is coming to visit. Am concerned that DS1 and DDIL are heading off home in a while on their 300k journey home to West Cork......DGD2 is staying until Thursday.

We had an enormous Spanish omelette rather late in the morning, there is soup for anyone who wants it, so dinner will be a light meal, something like pasta with bacon and mushrooms.....easy on me!

Have now had all family who will be visiting, except for DGS2 and DGD2, who will both be here until Thursday, they get on really well so are no hassle, they just need frequent feeding!

Will be going to local town tocollect my neighbour whose 78 yearold husband has spent most of the last 7 months....she doesnt drive so I am not sure how she will manage in the future, nearest bus is a 20 minute walk away.

My sympathy goes out to all tbose over the UK and Ireland who are suffering flooding of homes and farms, it appears that their torture is not over yet with Frank visiting over the next 24 hours.

Welcome to newbies, this is a lovely warm family.

    Stay safe and warm everybody.

    Hi all

Well in desperation I have joined the Flylady thread and the MF thread, it means I can bore more people that way.

What is the MF thread please?

Youngest dd went back to Liverpool last night and middle dd left early this morning after a breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.

Realised I only had a couple of days of medication left so went down to the medical centre to pick up my prescription. They were flooded out and only had one phone line working and computer was down. Bridge is closed to cars and pedestrians and both chemists are over the bridge as is the post office where I had to return two parcels for DDs.

Ended up waiting for the shuttle bus which went out of town, round to a motorway bridge and by passed that end of town then back to the other end of the bridge. It took me two and a half hours to do what would have been a twenty minute trip.

Main supermarket is flooded and will be shut for at least a couple of weeks. I did manage to buy a few bits and pieces so I don't have to go out unless I choose to do.

Hugs to hester, LW.Floss and csarina and everyone who could use one.

 Two dds have just phoned me asking about the bridge having collapsed. I just found news from 40 minutes ago saying part of the bridge has collapsed and could be closed for months.

Just glad I am safe and warm inside but feel so bad for those who got the worst of it.

  • Sprouts & cabbage JackieO, boy it's going to be windy in Kent!
    Hester

You could be right there Hester, any reported storms in the Kent area look no further:D

Just been to the cinema with DGS Ben and we had a lovely afternoon I dropped him off and picked up the rest of my odds and ends and I shall be at home in my own bed tonight for at least until Thursday.

Lots of left-overs to use up so a bit of searching through my cookbooks looks like a possibility for tomorrow morning.Washing has had a bit of a blow on the line so it can finish off on the airer in the conservatory.Going out for dinner, and to eldest DDs on New Years Eve so I have at least one full day tomorrow when I can just potter around at my own speed .
Tonight it will be feet up and do nothing. Not even bothering much about dinner I have some bacon to use up so its going to be scrambled eggs and bacon with a couple of mushrooms. I may diced up the cabbage and steam it and make bubble and squeak for tomorrows lunch, I have some red onion and some slightly sprouty spuds to use up as well.Just the Brussels to sort out now ???

Hope those who are in the bad weather areas get to batten down the hatches Keep warm and well if you can
    Cheers chums
