I see he has had a DLA back payment, ( or something similar ) and it is burning a hole in his pocket.
It infuriates me as I know that in a few days I'll get asked for money for food! And don't get me started on the amount of junk food they eat!!!
No wonder they don't have any money for long!

Why not get in first and ask him for some housekeeping cash? From the character you've described, a bloke like this will actually respect you more if you stand up for yourself.

You can always give back the contribution when - as you say is very likely - they run out of funds before the next payment arrives. ;)

I really like this idea - still do - but....I've tried something similar with one of my own children, who is hopeless at managing her wages. So the theory was that I would pay it to her in weekly instalments, so it would last her the month.

But it all broke down a few weeks later when I paid an overdue bill for her out of the pay and reduced the remaining week's pay outs. I concluded, while I saw someone who really couldn't manage her money, which she even admitted, she didn't see it as the problem I saw it, because from her perspective, if the money ran out, hey, there was always good old mum and dad to fall back on. Plus food banks are "so embarrassing", according to her.

On the one hand I don't want to enable her bad money management by continually bailing her out. But if she doesn't have food....? One thing I don't do any more is give actual money. I just do things like dropping some food off? You want take away? Bad luck. My budget doesn't stretch that far. But obviously this is much more of a problem when children don't live nearby.

Yes Northants to Cornwall isn't a possibility!
While they are here it is only a week, but I had bought extra food in, which I will have to do something with before it goes out of date as I don't want to have wasted my money.

Yes I am very tired all the time, and I do need to look after myself better, but I also don't want to run around quite so much and will need to rethink my commitments. Tonight it's babysitting for Biggest of Mooloo's. ( and no I don't get paid, and yes I've been paying her to look after DGD on the days that she does!) something I need to talk to her about.
Twin2 and her BF are going to visit some of her old friends while we are in Towcester babysitting. ( alas that includes the girl from the family from hell by the sounds of the conversations!!!!)
But I will be home by 8.15 and probably in bed by 9pm as I was last night.
I watched a recorded programme of Money For Nothing last night.
She made 7 very basic envelope cushions out of an old curtain and sold them for £229!!!
I'm lucky to sell mine for £8!!!
I need to find an upmarket outlet then.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Bear in mind that the price depends on the quality of the fabric - she was using vintage Sanderson which is always going to command a premium. If you have similar fabrics, price accordingly. And price lower quality fabrics at relatively less. You need to think about what the market locally will pay, so maybe have a selection at different price points and see what happens.

Maybe contact her and see whether she will stock your stuff?Otherwise somewhere like Not On The High Street which seems to be good for high-end bespoke items.

I've had a google of her, and she is selling some stuff on line.
I will need to invest some time in getting my website selling page sorted out!
But so busy at the moment it's gone mad.
We had 6 fittings today booked in, for brides, bridesmaids, flower girls and one ordinary alteration.
I sewed a ribbon to a waistband on a dress, did a skirt alteration on the waistline. Put two trouser zips in. Hemmed 9 pairs of trousers. Repaired the hem on a skirt and then had to stop to go and get DGD from after school club, collect twin2 and bf and go and babysit my other granddaughter and grandson.
By the time I'd fed, bathed and got him down his Mum was home, and we could come back. I'm shattered. So im going to bed now.
Indeed I'm actually in bed now and lights are going out any minute.

Morning. I had weird dreams between lots of disturbance. Twin2 came up to bed but her BF didn't, then she got up again, I'm directly above the sitting room so his deep voice carried up along with the TV. At 1.30 i told them to hurry up and settle as I'm up at 6am! It finally went quiet at 2.22am!
My alarm goes off at 6am- well I changed it to 6.30 as I knew I'd be tired.
I need to go put the bins out, as although twin2 said that they would do it- they didn't.
Although today theoretically is my day off, both staff and I are going to work and the seamstress and I will be working until at least 3pm
It's good that there is work, but not so good that the home life is disrupted at the moment.
I still haven't heard back from the housing about the asbestos test, or the dates they are coming to measure up for the Windows and doors, etc
I need to pay the deposit of £1,100 for the dropped curb today.

Oh my goodness, talk about a full on life. I know, with all the things going on in your house , like the asbestos and mould, a dropped kerb might seem inconsequential. But knowing you can park every night right at home AND get out no problem in the morning will take a huge weight off your shoulders.

I really miss having a flat or house with a designated car space. We have permit parking, but most times when we come back there are no spaces. It stretches to the surrounding streets, but now I don't enjoy such good health, sometimes coming home I get a feeling of dread, as in how far away will I need to park.

Maybe the answer is incredibly boring food and no treats -whether you are dropping it off or arranging a home delivery when told they "have no money for food"

Right, I need a mental pep talk, to bring my stress levels back down to earth.
Only 24 more hours and I will be able to get my home back.
The housing plan to do the damp Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday of the bank holiday week. Luckily DGD will be at her Mums for the week.
I will find it easier then.
The curb is being dropped next week.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Work continues to be busy, with fittings every day, and steady flow coming in.
I'm roughly on target sewing around £120-£150 worth of work each day.

DGD is still a bit stressy but has her appointment next Monday.
