I always boil up what is left of the chicken, bones and all and make a nice broth as a base for a chicken vegetable soup. Just strain it and then add a chicken stock cube, some herbs, a diced onion and a few diced carrots and anything else you fancy. Good in the winter, especially if you have gotten a cold! Also, if you roast a chicken, make some stuffing as that stretches it a bit further.
    ;););););)

i tried this once with a chicken carcas and it was very greasy not quite sure what went wrong tbh, my chicken is still cooking atm and has been in since 9ish on high so should be done soon i put some water in with it, have noticed some ppl do and some dont so next time will try it without am now at a loss as how to make the base as i would like to try and make some soup.

I normally cook chicken in slow cooker with no water added, then for last 30 mins add stuffing mix(already made up with water) which then soaks up the juices to make yummy stuffing.
Then with the carcus i cover with water in slow cooker add some carrots and celery and mixed herbs and skim the grease of the top every 15 mins or so.
Then i freeze it until im ready to use it.

Definately try adn have a few cheap meals a week, that will stretch out the budget.

Pizzas are cheap, make your own bases ( we make our own and they can work out about 25p each)

Jacket potatoes using a value bag ( 44p for 2.5kilos)

Sweetcorn cobs we buy the frozeon ones about a pound a bag.

If you try not to have meat every day and have cheese or egg based meals a bit more ( eggs chips & beans, scrambled eggs, mushroms & waffles type thing) this will certainly help.

If you wanted to post up your menu plan, or a recipt, then im certain we could all have some ideas as to how to help out!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Try removing the skin from the carcass before you make the stock. Most of the fat in a chicken is here.
I've just made (and eaten!) some chicken and sweetcorn soup I made like this.Added tinned sweetcorn to the stock, salt and pepper and a sprinkle of paprika.Thickened with cornflour it was good, and my boys ate it with no complaints.

The best tip i can give you on meal plans is start to make a list of all the meals your family like, then look at what days you need to have quick meal eg i have to have something mega quick on thursdays due to footy training with kids and plan your meals around your daily routine.
Then i make the shopping list list for the main meals, then after that add breakfast items eg cereal then lunch items so pack lunches sandwiches ect, then last of all add essentials eg milk bread baking items.
Then the hard part is the shop itself, i have become harden to walking past the offers and just getting what i need, i keep all my recipes and then after a few weeks you will be able to look through them and see what you bought that did get used ect

the kids will eat pata till it is coming out their ears so have decided on 2 pasta meals a week i uaualy mix it in with a tin of tom soup and some herbs 1 child will eat it as is the others like tuna in theirs(had this last night well they did i made mc for me) hoping to be able to save some of todays chicken for another pasta bake thing.
Am thinking on a cpl of things with rice not sure what as yet, a corned beef ,sweetcorn and tomato thing and something else
And the rest will probably be with pots either mash or home made wedges sausages maybe pie or quiche
3 of the kids will eat veg 1 will not even attempt to but it still gets put on her plate as i am hoping one day she may suprise me lol.
there are so many great threads on here about meal planning i get lost in them all
come sept 4 of the kids will be at school and my lo starts nursery in the aft for 2 hours in nov so will be needing filling quick uncomplicated cheap meals lol i dont ask for much do i

i shop at netto, and sainsburys for their 10p bargains. at our worst my shopping budget was £10 a week to feed 2 adults and 2 kids - meat was a distant memory lol - lots of pasta, eggs, potatoes, veg, pulses, baked beans, cheap cereal and home baking. i hope i never go back to being that hard up. mil would buy "treats"
