  • Hi everyone, extra Christmas cheer needed today! I'm really not enjoying how everyone is being so horrible to each other after this morning's big news. At the end of the day everyone has their own opinion and everyone's votes are personal to them. Let's hope people don't resent each other for too long.

On a positive note I popped into a charity shop this morning and got a wonderful lidded wicker basket with straps that will be perfect for our Christmas Eve basket. It was just what I was looking for and the perfect size and only cost me £4!

linz I am with you on watching a Christmas film, anything to escape all of the political stress!

Hallo...and frohe Weihnachten! (my German roots come firmly to the fore when I think of Christmas!)

May I join this happy little bunch of Christmas elves/angels?

I have already made my own start on Christmas 2016.....I am disabled and on benefits, and so every penny counts!

Some years ago I started doing a shoebox or so for the Samaritans Purse....and taught myself to knit for that....the bags and hats are REALLY popular with other people too and last year ...and this!....I have knitted hats and bags as presents for friends/family. ...I get wool from charity shops - and this year I am lining the bags. I have lost quite a bit of weight and had 2 terry-towelling dressing gowns in HUGE sizes...I have washed them and will use them as linings! One is pale blie, the other lilac so they should go well with what I have knitted.

I am a keen embroiderer too - most years I make my own Christmas cards. I have a good supply of Aida in various counts, and a fair stock of different coloured threads ( Buy cheap and stock up when on offer!) I also have some plastic coasters and at least one mirror that can be backed with cross-stitch) - bought in a closing down sale a few years ago....so they will make some nice small 'extras'.....Disability means I can be very slow with my needlework, so I need to make an early start!

And I bake ....At Christmas time I like to bake festive bread....and I try a new recipe ech year....I will have to start looking for this
    years 'special' soon!

Sadly, our Lidls has just closed down!!!!! They have some of the BEST Christmas goodies!

Oh - and I LOVE a good Christmas film! My favourite has to be A Christmas Carol...I have quite the collection of just this film...The Alistair Sim version (by far the best!) in both B/W and colour...George C Scott...Albert Finney....Jim Carey (Disney) ...Muppets (a hot contender for 2nd best version ever!)...Kelsey Grammar musical...Bil Murray (Scrooged)...Fred Flinstone....Bugs Bunny....amonst others!....and I also read the Dickens version over the 4 Advent Sundays!

So...have I proved my Christmassy Credentials?...am I allowed to join you?

  • Hi, I need to catch up here but wanted to say that my GP called me last night and youngest DS has Pernicious Anaemia which was discovered in last weeks blood tests. It looks like the missing link to his problems. He begins intense treatment Wednesday and in time will be on lifelong injections. I am purposely not reading anything up online (I never do as it always leads to something scary). But I would be interested if anyone else has any dealings with this condition. GP has been brilliant as well, saying we will try and get the first injections in him but if he's distressed with his ASD and other problems then he will arrange home visits.
  • Welcome to the thread Prinzessilein you will enjoy it on here.

I had a 15% off voucher to use on emma Bridgewater, and there is a sale on, picked a nice mug for my aunts hot chocolate hamper and I could use the voucher on sale items which was a bonus.:j So I've just got to get the hot chocolate and marshmallows which I will get nearer Christmas.

Has anyone got any ideas what to get a couple for their 50th wedding anniversary, I have no clue. The couple in question don't go on holiday abroad, don't like eating out, don't have any hobbies and are diabetic.

Can you do cross-stitch? If you have a access to a photo of the wedding then you could do an approximation of the bridal dress and hairstyle for her and get the right sort of shade for his suit!...add the date of the wedding....then pop it into a nice gold(en) frame.

Welcome to the thread PRINZESSILEIN, I'd say your Christmas credentials are perfect and you'll fit right in :D.

PRINCESSKITTY I know exactly what you mean, you vote how your conscience tells you and nobody has the right to pass judgement on you. My youngest DD had a bit of a fracas at the polling station because they gave her a pencil to use and she said she wanted to use her own pen. They said she couldn't, she said she could and in the end they agreed and she did. Nothing simple with my lot lol.

PINKSTEPS I'm so glad you've finally got the missing piece of the puzzle. I've heard of Pernicious Anaemia and I know it's not actually Anaemia but I don't have any personal experience. I don't read up on medical things on line either - too many scare stories and stuff that's just wrong. The good thing is you have a diagnosis and your determination has paid off.

CHRISSY, love your DD's autistic logic.

TREASUREQUEEN if they like gardening then a rose or small tree would be great. I like the golden themed hamper too if you think they'd get it. It's so much easier buying for people who have hobbies. Would they like theatre tickets or maybe lunch out? Was going to suggest afternoon tea but the diabetes probably wouldn't like it! Good luck.

Been feeling a bit sorry for myself and pathetic the past week or so. The chemo is not doing my lifeless hair any favours plus the colour is wrong but I can't do anything about it. Anyway, I had a really lovely appointment with the patient hair service and I've got two wigs! It perked me up a lot, my DD was so emotional she almost cried but the hair lady said she couldn't or she'd start her off too. It made me look so much better that I actually feel better too. Also DH and I have just had a couple of days away at my sister's holiday cottage in Ludlow and I feel much more like myself now. DD has just messaged me to say it's six months til Christmas, yay!

    Mornin!

Welcome prinzessilein, you will be in good company here.

PK I just don't get all this grief about the referendum result.I didn't vote to leave but I am glad to live in a democracy where people can have a different opinion to mine.

Free, here's hoping that you continue to feel better x

Pinksteps.I googled pernicious anaemia as I had no knowledge of it.It does sound like your son may be able to have tablets eventually instead of injections, lets hope so,tablets are preferable in my book.It also sounds like he will feel a lot better once treatment starts. It must be a relief for you to have a diagnosis.

Chrissy DD2 is on the spectrum so I get the logic,it still catches me out sometimes though.

Treasure Q Hamper sounds good but could get expensive if you get 50 items.I did it for DD1's 21st and to be honest I was running out of ideas, particularly as her birthday is not long after Christmas.Hmm maybe a rose is sounding good.

Peppa you are allowed to feel off.Keep hold of the idea "this time next year".xxx

Well I have been so busy recently.Gardening and socialising which is all good.I love living in this village,it was the right thing to move house.

Breast clinic phoned the day after and recalled me for a mammogram!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not thinking about it,sure its just a precaution.

Mr V working away last night so I have been awake since 3am,must miss the snoring.

    Laters Vx
