I really cannot offer any guarantee. I haven't ever run it through Windows 7. On the other hand I think that it might be the solution to your issue.

Thanks Nifty, I trust your advice, i have the file saved, i will do this after Christmas, I will carry on using it as it is for now

Thank you for all your help, you're a star!

Merry Xmas and happy new year :)

Looking at this again, i see no reference to anyone suggesting that it's an issue with the whitelist. Is it charging or not?

    Have you tried this?

Yes, thanks nifty, tried all that

The charger i am using at the moment is working but it is old and won't hold charge, when i remove my charger my laptop shuts down

When i inserted my new batter which i bought, in the task bar it shows, a red cross, "battery not detected"

I opened HP support assistant ran the battery check, same message "battery not detected"

So i don't know what the problem is, this is the second battery i have bought, same problem?

Did both batteries come from the same supplier and if so where did you get them, any chance of a link ?

Also is the power brick (PSU) the original one from HP or an third party one ?
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

If you have two batteries with the same problem and you know the second battery is new and a genuine like for like replacement, then I would suspect something in the lappy; maybe the contacts where the battery sits??

Thank you both, my original battery is a hp, it came with the laptop, it still charges but due to age, it does not hold it's charge, so the laptop shuts down when i unplug it from the mains charger.

The new one is a replacement from Amazon, when i put it in it, "battery not detected"

The power brick (PSU) is the original one from HP and works fine

These batteries are TOO SMART these days.

I bought a non-branded battery for a Samsung, and it came fully charged, so it powered the laptop, but it wouldn't charge up!

On closer inspection, it's not a Samsung branded battery, but it has very specific Samsung models it supports, but not my laptop!
On further investigation, Samsung has nothing in 7800mAh capacity, only around 6000 or less for my model. Because I wanted the higher capacity, I ended up buying a separate charger (brick) which comes with the correct plug to plug into the battery. Seems to take two hours to charge up from near empty, but at least it recharges.

Even at 7800mAh, the new battery lasted only about 90 minutes.

I presume that because lithium ion batteries are prone to overheating, so the manufacturers are ultra cautious, and they probably have some kind of handshake protocol to establish compatibility, between the laptop and battery.

Eventually, bought a new Toshiba laptop. The battery lasts three hours, and the charger is smaller and lighter.

Technology has moved on. If you paid say £50 for a replacement battery, and end up buying a another charger for another £50, including postage, isn't it better to just buy a new laptop for £200 more?

I've seen this issue before with a fault on the mainboard. If you've put in 2+ batteries and you're getting the same result I'd guess you have a mainboard fault. I would try installing Mint or Ubuntu and see how ACPI behaves.
