Why do Virgin & Sky increase prices annually?

Never ceases to amaze me how many people moan it's too expensive when a phone call would get them an offer.
Some people are savvy about this others can't be bothered. It's like a lot of MSE type stuff- The info is there but a lot of people are too idle to call their internet provider/electricity co. insurance co etc so end up paying more than they need to.
Anyone who is posting on here has no excuse as the info is right under their noses.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

That used to be the case but things have changed, I used to play the game with TalkTalk where you had to call, then they offered you a deal but it was kwap, then you said you were not happy and they escalated and you could get a decent deal. Not any more.
The fact the whole UK pricing has been put up to pay for vouchers and cashback, many of which are only available online.
Line rental has doubled bit no longer includes weekend calls, this is straight out of the RyanAir "how to lose customers and make them hate forever" school of management.
There was a lady on here a week or so ago, been paying something like £38 a month for basic broadband and anytime calls for four years. Where is their loyalty.
We all like a good deal but whole market needs a restructure from top to bottom, from all this market 2 market 3 nonsense to the way BT wholesale sells to ISP's, the charges for install and exit charges (which should be banned). Use of credit reference agencies should be banned when you are not taking credit, is one of the reasons I will not deal with TalkTalk, I value my privacy and do not want TalkTalk giving my data for gain. Even install charges are a nonsense, a cable is connected to a property, that cost should be absorbed because it is amortised over 30 or more years. The charges to switch you from BT to LLU and back again is a farce. Should all be virtual circuits which are 30 seconds work to change route.
Oh and of course they should wire up every home in the country with fibre and charge just £2 a month for it - OK that one was a joke!Never ceases to amaze me how many people moan it's too expensive when a phone call would get them an offer.

Hey I just thought of a new reason why they put up prices annually, it is to allow you to get out of bad contract, OFCOM rules mean if they put up price they have give you option to quitThanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0

You are just doing it wrong
You are trying to stay with the same provider to get the best price- With some that'll work (but not TT as you rightly say) but it's literally a bait and switch between providers now.
Most of the rest of your post is wrong too - but I really can't be bothered picking it all apart - if you really believe cashback sites and vouchers are something new.
As for OFCOM their role is to make sure customers are treated fairly - which isn't the same thing as BB getting cheaper every year (although many people manage to do that too) I pay #24 for LR and uncapped Fibre - I could get it cheaper but I won't use certain BB providers so am aware that my options are limited because I'll only use companies with decent service levels who don't try every excuse going before involving OR when needed. That used to be the case but things have changed, I used to play the game with TalkTalk where you had to call, then they offered you a deal but it was kwap, then you said you were not happy and they escalated and you could get a decent deal. Nothing has changed. If you don't get a decent deal then you move. Actual cancellation always gets a decent deal as Outbound Retentions phone you.The charges to switch you from BT to LLU and back again is a farce.
If you're being charged for migrating from BT equipment to LLU equipment you're going about it the wrong way so please stop posting this rubbish as gospel on various threads.
I have moved from BT to Sky, then to Plusnet and back to Sky. Three moves involving BT to LLU/LLU to BT and not been charged once.0 -
Well, I keep meaning to quit Sky, but never quite get around to it; I nearly did a couple of months ago, but they made me an offer and I decided not to refuse it.
With Virgin BB, the issue is that they have the best product on the market; however, again I called them thinking about quitting and they made me an offer too.
On the Sky angle, there are viable network-based TV services which might erode their advantages, but then again, they have a new network box due out real soon. I'm waiting for Amazon on the Apple TV, and then that might be the end of Sky.0 -
Quit Sky 4 years ago now
Now if I could avoid the annual train fare increases0 -
extract from BT from SeptemberWe know that no one likes price increases, which is why we've only increased line rental by 5.8 per cent to £17.99. The remaining price increases for Voice, Broadband and TV are no greater than 6.94 per cent.0

Sky now want to charge an extra £4 a month on top of line rental, for what was formerly a 'free evening and weekends calls' package.0
