only £10 a month direct from idmobile, but with 50 less minutes

    http://www.idmobile.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/Motorola-G-4G-2nd-gen?tid=IDWIC042

the phines worth about £100 at the moment, so £5 a month for the allowance isnt too shabby

although if the op can get together about £67 they can get a 'used' one from Amazon warehouse with their 30% off offer at the moment

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00UJAP24A/ref=sr_1_1_olp?m=A2OAJ7377F756P&ie=UTF8&qid=1451172782&sr=8-1&keywords=moto&condition=used[/QUOTE]

Thanks for this- I'd never heard of ID before, they seem to have OK prices; does anyone know which network they piggyback on? Or how reliable they are with things like correct bills, customer service and keeping to the £5 cap?

    they use three.

personally i've only been with them for a month, but had no problems, payment taken on time, they have a nice app with loads of info etc, if you're approaching your allowance limits its easy to add extra minutes / data etc from within the app

    Regarding Battery's.
I see that on Amazon you can pay as little as £5 for a so called Samsung type battery. Just look at the reviews.... They are not good. The only one I have ever bought came from a high street shop and cost +/- £20. It worked just like the original and was well worth the money.

I got a replacement battery initially from a Samsung store but it made no difference, luckily (?) they refunded me back and said the handset was faulty then took it in for a repair, gave it back to me with a new motherboard (apparently) which made absolutely no difference (the handset was still slow and fickle). I then got a batter 3 times the size from Anker via Amazon who are a reputable company. I got about 2-3 hours more from that battery but not 3 times the time. I've since stuck with this battery because it's better than the Samsung one it came with or the one they refunded me for.

I've given up with this phone, I don't think it's the battery, I think it's the phone. I'm going to put money aside for a while and hope the Motorola G 3rd generation comes down in price, or something offering those sorts of specs. I understand it's not actually going to be offering much more than the S3 but being that my S3 isn't working properly this should be a huge improvement!

:) If I save for a few months (also remembering I wont have a very workable phone during that time so there is a limit to how long I can save for) I should be able to buy a handset for around £100 by the summer. If nothing breaks down and I don't get any unexpected emergency costs to pay out. Maybe by then some of the £200 handsets will be £100...if not something will be!
Can't say I've ever had a holiday full stop (unless you count the last family holiday I was taken on now decades ago) let alone one for £250!

I've cleared my debts, I'm looking forward to a proper holiday after 6 years :rotfl: Not a bad plan^ bar pesky emergencies.

what's the 30% offer to get it for £67? The best I've seen is £99.74 :(
Life is a coin, you can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend it once.
Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you'll see further.

Have you tried a factory reset as if the phone is working but just getting warm etc then it's probably just the OS or a rogue app playing up?

I've also got an S3 that I've had for two years but it still works fine! I got a new battery the other day from the Samsung website for £19.
Just to suggest you look on Topcashback.co.uk before buying anything. I renewed my £15 a month SIM-only contract with O2 and with the cashback that paid out after a month it brought the monthly cost down to £11.50 spread over 12 months.
I realise you're looking for PAYG but you still might find a cashback deal (mine was through Carphone Warehouse but O2 is now doing a better deal than them through Topcashback.co.uk).

PS if your phone takes 12 hours to charge that sounds like a dodgy USB cable. Mine used to be like that but after posting a query about this on O2's forum they told me to get a new cable as Samsung had sent out dodgy batches. It used to take 8 hrs+ to recharge but then with a new cable only took 90 mins.
