Thanks. Your right- a contract isn't really the best thing and to be honest, I'd rather stick with a PAYG phone, but just can't afford the outlay in one go.
I already pay £15 a month to O2 on PAYG and manage this well, have done now for almost 3 years so the idea of having a contract of £15 I think seems do-able, £20 is a push and to be honest I'd rather stick with £15 but being that I'm unlikely to get another handset (without buying it outright first) I'm aware that £20 is something I'd just have to make room for.
However; on looking at GiffGaff I can see a few phones and goodybags which do seem in budget and I'm going to apply in January and see how this goes. By then I'll be 5.5 years from the bad stuff on my credit file and hope things go a bit better. If not I'll opt for one of the very basic handsets to get me by (the non-smartphone types) and just wait until September to reapply (6 years and a month from bad credit stuff) but try the credit-builder credit cards until then.
I wasn't sure how the credit file thing really worked with my bank-that-isn't-a-bank, I had thought I was OK and it was only on an MSE email or tweet from them a few weeks ago that I found out about the credit file issue with building societies not being used in reports.
Other than this, I'll just start saving a little each month and putting it aside, at the very least if I do this until 2017 I should be able to afford something at least semi-decent.0 -

Have you tried a fix for your S3? I have an S4 and it has overheated to that extent a couple of times, but I was able to fix it by updating the apps on it.
Go to google play store (on the phone), then tap the menu button (3 lines near the top), then 'my apps' and update (or delete, if not needed) your apps.
If the above doesn't help, then head over to the techie forum on here and ask their advice about the overheating.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.

Is it the phone or the battery that is heating up. A new battery will cost about £25 and are easily replaced on a Samsung S3There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0

the phines worth about £100 at the moment, so £5 a month for the allowance isnt too shabby
although if the op can get together about £67 they can get a 'used' one from Amazon warehouse with their 30% off offer at the moment

This is the third new battery....(the others didn't last long; eg charge 12 hours and lasts 8). I have a massive battery now. 3 times the size of a regular battery (Anker on Amazon who I assume are legit). I still can't get more than 11 or 12 hours out of the battery and I don't use the thing that much! I've done everything I think to have it conserve battery; tbh I think it's the handset which is faulty not the battery.
I've been looking around in the sales and there are a few decent-ish offers so am going to look in to those in January; just want to make sure all my bills go out ok for next month before I splash out on anything else!0 -

Thanks for this- I'd never heard of ID before, they seem to have OK prices; does anyone know which network they piggyback on? Or how reliable they are with things like correct bills, customer service and keeping to the £5 cap?0 -

3, IDmobile took 2 full month DD payments out my bank even though I gave 30 days notice, I should have paid a few days payment on the second DD not a full month, knew I should have cancelled the DD and paid few pound by card.
