I can't fix it to the wall as it is just plasterboard plastered over and painted.

One of the sets I'm looking carefully at is the Samsung UE40JU6400 LED 4K Ultra HD Smart TV, 40" with Freeview HD and Built-In Wi-Fi

    That TV is under 8kg

Standard plaster board is good for 20kg on a single correct fixings

A flush bracket with multiple standard fixings(10kg each) will be fine, only if you want to swing it out would something more substantial(into stud) be needed.

The days of 70kg TV was Plasma.

Its Programme content that matters most, not the size/4K or whatever.

I'll be heading to the shops tomorrow to see some televisions. Some on the 'to see' list include curved tv's what's your opinion are they a gimmick or what benefit do they offer?

You should call in at specsavers first, then re-read this thread. Curved are the next Fagin TV following the failed 3D con on consumers. Unless you live alone and have deep pockets you will pay a lot more and reduce the viewing angle. So disadvantage for no gain .. .. ..

Believe it or not I am inclined to agree with you but I would be interested in hearing from those who have bought them or seen them in an out of showroom srrounding.

People keep talking about the 3D con and how it completely failed but did it really there are still 3D movies in the cinema and they are still released on BD.

I don't think 3D really did fail I don't think there was ever the intention that everything would be 3D. And if you have films made in 3D it can be quite impressive unfortunately to many films are done on the cheap and converted in post.
  • Justifying cost allocation decisions is important, but sadly is subjective and once spent is more often defensive than objective - its just a human trait.

    - what are the benefits compared to a non-4K
    - what was the % addition cost compared to the non-4K
    - what do you consider 'enough' available output transmission compared to non-4K

In just Aug this year there was 30% between a non4K and a 4K ready was a lot more at 50 inch. I've just looked at one shop Currys and a Smart 4K is £150 more than a 1080p, so smart 1080p @ £300 and smart 4K @ £450. So how much more are you prepared to gamble that full-4K content will be available. You are correct to ask other views. Best of luck.
