I can't fix it to the wall as it is just plasterboard plastered over and painted
To do a pure look, i.e. no cables showing, you need to have the power socket as well as all the signal cables coming out behind the TV. If you mount the TV on the wall, and then have lots of cables dangling, it looks terrible.
The thing is, you typically have a Sky or Virgin box, a DVD/BluRay player, and maybe an Xbox. They can't be too far from the TV, so typically you end up with a media cabinet/unit under the TV anyway. There are some very nice TV stands with a spine in the back, with adjustable height. You run the cable behind the spine, neat and tidy.
You can always mount the TV when you re-decorate, so it's not never ever.0 -
I wouldn't normally recommend a 'cheap' brand but richer sounds have a 58 inch 4k 3d hiense TV with a 6 year warranty for £699. This maybe worth a look for some people who want BIG on a budget.0

We have a 42" Panasonic, which happens to have 3D, but we don't have any access to 3D material. However, I bought the set because of its looks and the fact that it had better picture quality than other sets (also Panasonic) around it. (We have had Panasonics for years and like the fact that they retain an on/off switch, so no leaving on permanent standby)
Actually, we can rarely tell whether we are watching an STD or an HD broadcast so 4k would have no advantage for us.0 -
I would wait another 10 years before bothering with 4K.
I bought Full HD early on, and was disappointed. I ended up cherishing HD Ready, and bought two Panasonic last of the Plasmas with 1024 x 768 panels so they will see me through the rest of my life.
By the time the dust has settled, we will need Sky+UHD, BluRayUHD player, fibre broadband, and even the HDMI cable might be defunct.0 -

and then 8k or 16k or whatevers next will be out, so best wait until that beds in too.
Get the best TV you can, for your budget, when you need it.
4K on a Samsung is a very nice upgrade over HD as Samsung upscales so well. Love ours.0 -
The only application of 4K I can think of is if you want to count the number of pubic hair a !!!!!! star has.
Just about every thing I watch is fine at HD Ready.0 -

I spent over a thousand pounds buying a SONY LCD Full HD TV, before Freeview, and certainly no Freeview HD. So, a FULL HD TV that can only tune in "digital channels", not HD ones.
So what happens if they bring out a new standard, e.g. DVB-T3, for 4K?
Scream for a software upgrade, and they say tough, buy a new TV?
Sure, it's got HDMI, just like my old SONY.0 -

That's just silly. Wait until it's useful, not wait until it's defunct. HD certainly isn't defunct right now, yes people are talking about 4k, but there isn't anything to watch in 4k right now. It's like when HD came, only a couple of channels were there, but now HD is norm and has been the norm for a fair few years. Saying that not every channel is HD, there's not enough signal/bandwith for it, so where's the room for 4k?
What if 4k fails to take off like 3D? It could happen, people may not take to it straight away. Just because the companies tell people they should want it, doesn't mean it'll be big (at least not for a while)0
