Well after many years of guests being too full for a heavy dessert we have now got a tradition of make your own icecream sundaes and it has always proved to be a popular choice.
We buy some high end ice-creams, sprinkles, nuts, chocolate flakes, wafers, ice-cream sauces, fresh cream etc and everyone makes their own.
Those that are full can have a small bowl of icecream whilst the hollow legged youngsters create magnificent desserts for themselves.
Whatever is left over is put back in the freezer so no left overs!Stashbusting 2019 - 230/3000 -

We usually end up with pud for supper, this year my mum is bringing her HM cake, and 2 mini christmas puds for the menfolk that grumbled. The kids will want sweeties and I'm happy with a mince pie.
Love the idea of frozen after eights! Must try that...Bossymoo

If they are black cherries, use chocolate cake, kirsch or cherry brandy, chocolate custard and top with cream and chocolate sprinkles for a Black Forest trifle.
For ordinary red cherries, almond goes well. Have an almond flavoured cake, Amaretto or cherry liqueur, a hint of almond in the custard and flaked almonds and cream on top. You could also use another fruit with the cherries for variety, raspberries would go well for example. One life - your life - live it!0 -
we will have apple pie (christmas pud is out as only i eat it) My late mother used to eat christmas pud and we would have that and the rest of the family would have apple pie, so just apple pie this year. I am still considering a sherry trifle if anyone wants a sweet for tea - but I don't do jelly and brother does not do fruit (mum used to do 3 - one fruitless, one jellyless and one with fruit and jelly) mine will be jelly and fruitless!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

I will offer some gu cheesecakes, individual Xmas pudding, individual trifles and individual stem ginger puddings, I also have individual cartons of custard and a tin ofsquirty cream.
Every year people here don't want dessert or some do or all do, so I take the easy option. I also have guests on boxing day so it gets eaten.
I cook the starter and main from scratch so don't feel bad about my dessert and if they want they can have home made mince pie and fudge.0
