We like traveller's cheques too. They're as convenient as cash but with the added bonus of being fully insured. Sadly (for us) nowhere seems to sell them anymore.

Not sure they are as convenient as cash as some shops wont accept them any more (so i am told)., and if nowhere sells them anymore that sort of confirms it

they are poor value (as is buying cash)

Cards are convenient and give much better value, either prepaid , CC or DC depending on which bank they are from

We've never had any problem spending them. We'll be finishing the last of our stock this year I expect (last bought some the trip before last). Last year we took cash too

We have a Halifax Clarity card for other spending but in Vegas we spend a lot of cash (or tcs) and it's always seemed a bit of a bind to be going to an atm - plus I understand the withdrawal fees are pretty high apart from at Casino Royale?

Last time I enquired I could get them but I had to preorder them -I'm guessing eventually they'll disappear-which is a shame -I rather like them too.

I have been knocked back trying to use a UK photocard licence as well as a US passport card (a credit card-sized version of a US passport I only got for this purpose) at Caesars properties before...though it's been awhile as I gave up...this was always at the players club booth.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Each to their own of course and you are right some of the ATMs charge a few dollars but that is still cheaper than purchasing cheques or cash.

This is MSE after all ;)

Flamingo (same group) accepted my UK driving licence in September as ID for a replacement player card

We are going to Vegas in 2 weeks and have tickets for Lionel Ritchie too! I think we are going on May 14th. Please let me know what you thought of the show!

I had heard that some places insisted on passport ID... hmmm... decisions, decisions.

We have had a drivers licence declined twice so far in the last two weeks. If it's just for a replacement card, then MGM and Total Rewards will accept a drivers licence. Both may need passports to redeem other things. Eg, rewards from MLife and tr points. It may vary from casino to casino. If you are getting a new card from outlying casinos or places outside the greater Las Vegas area, you will probably need your passport. We were declined in North Las Vegas and Laughlin, even though we had hotel reservations.
