Want to sell Office365 code and protect myself from being scammed

Hello, I recently purchased a cheap Windows 7 tablet, that came with a 1 year subscription to Office365. I do not need this and would therefore like to sell it. I'd like to put it on ebay and the winner gets the code emailed to them. How can I do this and ensure that I don't get scammed by them saying that they have not received it, or it doesn't work? Could I send the code through an ebay message?

Or would I be better of using another method? Gumtree?

Thanks

I believe you need proof of delivery if you were to accept PayPal, so it might be easier to write the code down and post it, or post all the documents you have relating to it.

Do not send via email or eBay message, as you will not be able to prove delivery you will lose any inr case.
  • Surely sending by ebay message would be proof, using normal logic. However using ebay's "the buyer is always correct" it would probably not be proof!

Nope, as you could be sending anything in the message.

For PayPal, the only proof is tracking showing delivery. You might get an honest buyer who would never dream of claiming inr when it has been, but there are far too many people out there who want something for nothing.
  • So gumtree or something else then?

You could sell via eBay, just put something in the post to them instead of emailing, or if you do email, don't take PayPal as a payment
  • You need to offer Paypal as a payment method if you sell on Ebay. Paypal do not cover non tangible items (codes) in their protection.

Do not sell a code on ebay it will only lead to issues. Sell it on a Facebook site/similar type site or cash sale.
  • Send the code on a piece of paper by special delivery. Problem solved.

Assuming you're talking about OEM software that came bundled with the device, my experience would suggest that once listed MS will have the auction pulled within hours and you'll get a strongly worded warning to desist from breaking the terms of your licence.

Until the buyer uses the code then claims item not as decribed (does not work) and wants a refund?

I suspect this will be the case, you wouldn't think those mega-corporations would have the inclination to employ people to trawl the internet looking for little people selling stuff on a one-off basis (as opposed to businesses) but it looks like they do,:( I had a couple of eBay listings removed for alleged trademark violation, they were Epson compatible ink cartridges which were clearly listed as compatibles and there are thousands of compatibles being sold on eBay, yet it looks like Epson reported me.:mad::mad:
