Find a phone provider for my MIL Please!

Well she is now in a home and still giving us problems. She will ring whilst people are at work to say things like I cannot find my slippers!
So we want to get a mobile phone which she cannot dial out on.
We and others will ring her daily on it but she must be stopped making these ridiculous calls.
Have had a look and there are phones for dementia sufferers but they are for landlines, all the mobiles require calls out. Quite prepared to pay monthly.
Also wonder if there is a way to put a block on the handset perhaps?

  • Nice why not lock her up instead. Ill or not you cannot take a phone away from her.

You have to program the buttons for numbers.
However, it's not cheap. Expect to pay >£100.
Also, with any provider the SIM is likely to get disconnected after 6 months (earlier with some) without outgoing calls.

    grumbler please explain.

mchale, I have asked about this but none of the providers I contacted could say how long a sim with no credit on would be able to receive calls without making any.

What we want is a sim, say for £5 a month that only allows incoming calls.

    grumbler please explain.
    What exactly?
mchale, I have asked about this but none of the providers I contacted could say how long a sim with no credit on would be able to receive calls without making any.
T&C typically say 6 months. My tesco sim lasted for ~2 years despite T&C saying 6 months.
What we want is a sim, say for £5 a month that only allows incoming calls.
Such SIM doesn't exist, but you can top it up once every 6 months and use all credit thus disabling outgoing calls. Why waste money on a top up if you can just order a new free SIM?

So can i buy a PAYG sim and use it to receive calls without putting any money on it ? The ones I have seen need a top up before they are activated. Plus can I transfer the number without putting any credit on it? I think the answer is no!
i also think I should explain we live 220 miles away so going down every six months, putting money onto it and then making calls to use up all the money isn't really feasible.
grumbler what I was asking you to explain was how will the phone you ilustrated will help.

I thought grumbler knew the answers on here ;)

Surely a payg sim must have a 'chargeable event' (which could be incoming or outgoing) every X days??

    :)

What chargeable 'incoming' events are there except premium texts?

Why not if the caller is paying?
The ones I have seen need a top up before they are activated.
    Not in my experience.

Transfer in - very likely. Transfer out - sometimes.
Why do you want to transfer it anyway?
grumbler what I was asking you to explain was how will the phone you ilustrated will help.
Unless you program its buttons for the numbers you want, it's impossible to make any calls. I thought it was obvious. How can you dial a number with four ABCD buttons?
