How wrong you are my friend.
She received £25,000 and the balance is earning over 15% per year payable each and every month.
    Enough said!

Let me quess. Is it storage pods? Airport parking? Rare earth metals?

Until you quoted 15% it all sounded so promising.

It was actually me that had to tell my landlord friend about the changes the other week to stamp duty, he was completely unaware.
They seem to have much more of a "It'll never impact me" sort of attitude.

The changes will impact some more than others.

A BTL investor could pay the extra stamp duty today on a BTL and if they decide to sell in the future it gets deducted from any taxes they have to pay.
If the change to stamp duty on a BTL is the difference between buying or not then its probably best not to go for it as it is advisable to have a buffer to take care of void periods and upkeep of the property.

Re the changes on tax relief on buy-to-let mortgage interest payments (phased in from April 2017), higher rate and top rate tax payers will have to pay more but basic rate tax payers will still pay the same.
This change wont effect cash buyers or those that are hoping to use their pension pots to buy rental property.

  • Thanks for all the advice folks. As for JayF23, you just sound implausible and ridiculous. If you have good advice why don't you just share it with everyone?

Even in the private message you sent me you didn't disclose any information about the absurd 15% guaranteed lovely jubbly investment you've been talking about.

What a surprise. We all thought he/she was a scammer and the 15% guaranteed return proves it.

though it may be that, after restricting tax relief on BTL mortgages to the basic rate, they will go on to phase it out altogether. that is after all what happened with MIRAS (the similar relief for owner-occupiers).

JayF23's investment sounds like the one I am offering.

Send me a cheque for £10,000 and you will receive 15% back each year GUARANTEED for the next six years. Where else can you get a guaranteed 15%? The best bank accounts are only paying 6%

Sadly some people just look at the headline figure and fall for this kind of scam.

    Gentlemen ,

Please be advised that I am not and will not offer any advice.
I'm simply telling it as it is.

Good. If you can be surprised at someone being entitled to take a 25% lump sum from a pension fund, it doesn't sound much like a font of much new wisdom, and treating the claimed 15% yield as a secret to be divulged only to people who phone you up is ridiculous.
