Someone Stole my Caption...and Won!

Hi everyone

Not sure if you can help me but I just saw that someone has won £500 of Daily Mirror prizes...using the caption that I wrote first, word for word! I'm guessing looking at the Ts and Cs I don't have any recourse but I'm so upset! Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Was it something common that another person could have easily thought of independently?
I know when I enter those ones you can only see about 5 other comments at a time. I looked through about 4 pages and one of my submissions was on the same theme as another post, but not quite exact wording. I hadn't copied though.

Contact them and ask if you want clarification. That's my advice.

It was this one (scroll down to the bananas picture) and it was word for word. I put "Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie had really outdone themselves this time." which I don't think is even current enough for someone to write exactly the same thing!

Contact them then in case they got the wrong name to the wrong caption.

Thanks everyone. I'm so upset! I don't mind not winning - like one of the signatures says on here - along the lines of that I just like taking part, winning is a bonus - this is just so unfair. It was a £500 Smyths voucher and I've never won a caption competition in my life. To think I come in from work and comp until I'm so tired I fall into bed just for someone to copy and paste my entry when my family could have benefitted from this win!

Taking my sad face off now and putting back my Christmas one!

I would definitely complain. It makes a mockery of the whole competition if people can just copy captions submitted earlier and get a win out of it.

Oh I did forget the link! I'm richocheting from angry to upset! I do think that the references I made were far too out of date to be a coincidence for someone else to do the same.

This website is a lifeline for me and my only gripe with myself is that I hardly get to make contributions to new competitions - you all beat me to it! On the plus side, I give away so many of my wins to friends and family. Just this week I won a Daily Telegraph £150 subscription. I entered for my Dad and was so excited to win...only for him to tell me he is 3 months into one! I did a little free draw at school, where I work, and gave it away for free. I just don't like people who take the easy route or who are so devious.

I remember seeing the winning caption and thinking 'that's genius!' I'm so sorry that someone copied your caption and won. I'd definitely complain. x
