As others have already said - it's a huge commercial thing, very little , in fact hardly anything to do with religion (except paganism 'cos it was poached!)
Yes, starts in October, loads of hype, encouraging children to demand the latest gadgets etc, and the flipping carols playing in shops from autumn onwards.
Please can we have mince pies, easter eggs, carved pumpkins and chocolate reindeer all year round??!!!

I stopped posting Christmas cards a few years back instead phone people or send internet cards. The money I save goes to charity instead of boosting the Post Offices coffers and sending a piece of card which will go in the bin come January.

I don't mind spending money but I like it to be well used rather than frittered away.
Sorry this is a Bah humbug vote!!!

I love Christmas, but the run up rather than the day itself. You don't have to overspend and I love the special feeling of the season.

Winter festivals were here before Christianity.

Also remember what people buy does also keep people in jobs.

'A one-day festivity has turned into a season'

As far as I am aware, Christmas has never been a one-day festivity.

If the church really pushed the boat out it would be less commercial and more relgious, it has allowed without fight xmas more based on what it become from winter festivals - religion and now sales, maybe its time the church turned mass into a two week stay over xmas and new year for the homeless with governmental employees there from NHS, DWP and Local Authority Housing - start doing what they apparently preach and as good church people allegedly do - help the most needy.

Alot of churches in AU open their halls to sleep in for homeless most the week, beggers belief in the UK they cant do that over whatever his name is in that book birthday was it ? and the celebration of the New Year period, PERIOD.

The church is as commercialised as corporations - it does not stick by its own operating manual to help the most needy at anytime of the year as a large organisation. Maybe putting Xmas where they preach it to be would undermine the corporations not themselves.

just bring in legislation that bans xmas until Dec 1st.

that would make a lot of people happy.

most people love xmas. but all this late sept start is really taking the mickey now! all it does is spoil the event!

Lets be honest, even 24 days is too much!

  • Nope. I love Christmas. It is my favourite holiday of the year.

I start preparing for it in January by getting my wrapping paper and Christmas cards in the sales.

And I do celebrate the true reason for Christmas too. It is not just about the gifts and the food for my family.

.... just pick and choose what you want out of Christmas. Last year i wasnt fussed about a tree so we didnt have one. This year ive got a small tree but only got family cards. and ive made a donation to charity instead.

My lot have had gift vouchers this year (as every year) but i started saving them earlier this year. The Outlaws got booze (which was bought weeks ago).

Food, i wont be going over the top on that either though i will make an effort on Christmas Day and New Years Day. My family want all the trimmings, and thats what they will get!
