its supposed to be jesus birthday if you believe it, why do we have to get presents on his birthday we all have our own.
If you don't like the tradition of giving gifts (you make it sounds like it's something that's been introduced in the last few years like Black Friday :rotfl:) then opt out.0 -
the pressure is on to give gifts.:footie:0

the pressure is on to give gifts.
I have no presssure on me to buy gifts for anyone.
I buy for a very small number of people, people that I'm happy to shop for because they are people close to me and I know what they like and get pleasure from choosing something that I know they will appreciate.
There's no 'Oh, I got you this box of chocolates but I didn't know you were diabetic' and 'never mind, I got you this bottle of wine but didn't realise you were on the wagon' exchange of gifts.
The gifts I buy - and those I receive - are very much appreciated and chosen with care.
If you feel you have pressure on yourself to buy gifts, maybe it's time you stood up and said "it's time to stop this 'tradition'".0 -
We never bother with gifts on our birthdays, just tend to go out for a meal. Christmas is when we buy each other lots of gifts. I don't feel pressured to though I like doing it. I also don't buy gifts for anyone other than immediate families and a couple of people I work with.0

I think it is sad that people no longer enjoy Christmas0

I like Christmas because it's the one time of the year that people down tools and have a chance to relax. For us it's also family time with everyone being on their best behaviour. For those reasons alone I vote in favour.
We don't exchange gifts anymore but enjoy getting a meal together and watching a film on 25th Dec. I tend to send out cards to friends and neighbours as it's a good point in the year to get in touch, even if you have seen each other the last 11 months. If gifts were involved, I suspect the hassle would put me off.0 -
Yes, Christmas is a great time to relax. I don't think you should buy loads of gifts though, some something unique, special and individual.
With the Next sale starting on Boxing Day at stupid-o-clock, some people don't actually get that much time to relax.0
