Sat/Sun 12th/13th December - What small DFW things will you do this weekend?

  • Ooh - it's almost midnight
I kind of got a bit carried away with the knitting. Thank you Ziggy for the beautiful tree decorations:kisses3: They are on the tree and ds has now demanded I stop making decorations as those are better, and immediately knit him a Christmas stocking... So I made a start and suddenly it's very late and I'm very tired. And a Christmas stocking is a lot bigger than a tree ornament... :o

Think that's it for the moment.

    Successful day
Right - I'm off to catch up with the rest of the thread and then post tomorrow's plans.

    * Fixed hoover during the week. It had lost it's suction. Pair of knickers were bunging it up! OH had been hoovering behind the radiator it transpires.
I love this. I've unblocked all sorts from the hoover including cat biscuits, pencils and even a small ball, but never knickers. :rotfl:
Very amusing afternoon with OH. We are recordin an audio version of a much loved book from when I was little as a gift for my mum for Christmas.
Improvised a desk-top mic stand from OH's dumbbells and gaffer tape. Pop shield from old tights and a wire coat-hanger. Take that Abbey Road studios!
    I love this too. :rotfl:
OK, so in spite of having a relaxing day today there's still plenty of plans for tomorrow as well. I wish work was done for the year though....
    :xmassmile tutoring
:xmassmile visit my mam and catch up, get a free feed and some knitting tips
    :xmassmile aim for nsd
:xmassmile get dh to put the recycling out
:xmassmile urgently write some Christmas cards (this could be the last time I see my mam before Christmas)
    :xmassmile more knitting obviously
:xmassmile prep enough meals to get me through the week at work
:xmassmile look for a couple of items of post I got while I was ill during last week, which I know I have but now can't find at all. I just can't remember what I did with them.
:xmassmile 15 mins of housework and declutter
:xmassmile get the kids on board with a bit of housework
:xmassmile do not think about work :D
  • Morning all :hello: another early start. DD alarm clock must be broken, today it went off at 5.01  however early start does mean I can do some jobs :
BNS, carrots and onion in oven roasting for soup
As are 2 joints of lamb we bought whilst on half price will strip and portion and put in freezer later
Washing that was on overnight is drying on airer/radiator

    I will also:
    Check banking, make a PAD
Put bm on when DH wakes up, first 10 minutes are a bit noisy :o
Write a couple of cards to give out today, didn't get round to it yesterday
Did some wrapping last night, but just a few more to do

I also did my nails with the nail thing from b00ts. They look surprisingly good. Let's hope they last :) have a good day everyone.

Oooh, excellent - you'll never go back now!! I bought some other colours on @mazon for £5 rather than the same brand as the kit - work just as well.

And to make them last longer you could get something like this http://goo.gl/41cVtI

If you see it chipping you can put glitter normal nail polish over the top and it hides any chips. Was a tip in the b00ts mag and I think I will get some with my points for after xmas.

  • Ha good to see you're still alive La E! Jonno good call on making bread and soup for lunch very inspired! Thinking now when my db comes round on 23rd I will do the same, light easy but so delish!

So hurrah work for the week is done - although am going to get ready to go and do 2 ms assignments shortly

Today we will be digging out the Christmas decs and putting up the tree.

Dinner will be lasagna from yesterday's massive sauce I made & I will freeze a batch for next Monday when we have rescheduled our Christmas get together with my bff and her family.

This evening we are going to watch a village Christmas lights turn on and see carol singers and will have a cheeky drink in the pub I work - good as there was a bit of drama and I had to take someone home after my shift (as they were drunk!) so I didn't fill in my timesheet. Hopefully I can get my boss to let me know what shifts he wants me to work next week...

Other than that think I will be wrapping some gifts and making more chocolate spoons. They really do look good! Someone at work suggested I sold them, which I wish I had considered and done some earlier.

Oh and of course more washing!

Have a great day y'all xxx

    Morning all,
Made a nice change to see some frost here this morning as I'm missing crisp bright cold mornings. Am going to 2 festive events later but a very few money saving things first:
*Load washer for cheap overnight laundry.
*Read energy meters & update spreadsheets.
    *Make loaf in the BM.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
    *Make 2 batches of fudge.
*Sew in the ends on Dad's jumper.
I think that will be as much as I can do before I go out.
Have a good day all. Loving hearing about all your festive prep.
    F xx
P.S Why have I never thought ofbusing a layer of glitter polish over chipped nail varnish? Genius! But so simple, like all good ideas.
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • Morning everyone

Foxgloves I remember that as a child even your "big" Christmas present wasnt anything that expensive. How times have changed. My jaw drops when I hear about the things that DSs friends will be getting. With a lot of saving and some careful juggling we have got a reasonable amount for the kids and they both appreciate it. There is so much pressure to buy more though.

DS1 and I lit the fire yesterday afternoon, put Christmas music on and tackled sorting and counting the contents of the penny jar that has been untouched for a long time. £77! Just need to lug it all to the bank now. This will all be spent on food and we can go a bit mad when we have all the family around. One advantage of having a very tight food budget through the year is that we can have a bit of fun with the Christmas food delivery and everyone gets very excited when it arrives.

Washing over the airer last night, just finishing off in the tumbler, footie today so that is a bit of a trek. Plumber coming to fit the new bathroom tomorrow so DH has some final preparation to do.

Oh and Bob I have woken up with indigestion this morning. I know how your little girl feels!

Have a good Sunday everyone x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

I'm pondering. It's a good morning for it. I set a rather arbitrary DFD last time but it has given me a really good goal to work toward. As my income is so variable due to being self employed I have had months were I can only do the min payment and others were I've managed to pay down several hundred.
My signature debt is all on 0% need to check till when. But if I set my new DFD to this time next year (12 months) I would need to clear £225 per month. This would be doable some months but not all. However with the better months it should smooth the worse ones. I think this seems like a good plan. If I can find more to pay down this month then that would change the monthly amount to clear over the next 12 months.
If I took £500 from my EF then that would reduce the monthly payments over 12 months to £183. Something to consider.

I'd love to find a way of ending this year Debt Free but see 1 more good year of pushing at it as more realistic.

More coffee going on now :)
