CLF - that's why I don't trust Vodafone or dd's .... I am with virgin and they allow you to make a payment towards your bill.

Each month I buy £15 top up from tesco (earning club card points) just before my bill is produced more than covers my £12.54 bill and give me credit in case I go over one month.

I get the benefit of a decent contract without the hastle of DD nightmares.....do Vodafone do something similar (you could say that you are going away and don't want a large bill)

    Hope this helps
    Candy xx

Thanks Candy - if I can't get this resolved, I'll see what I can do.

To be fair, I haven't had major issues before (been with them for over 12 years ) - it just seems really bizarre!

Oooh, progress on the present-knitting front. Mr f was later home from work this morning than I expected so I finished all the knitting. Just got to cast off & sew in the ends, which I'll do on Monday.
Have cancelled IKEA plans as we reckon both it & the car park will be rammed. Mr f says they don't do free coffee on weekends so will set of for friends" house later......which gives me time to finish knitting that pesky sleeve which I didn't quite finish last night.
Also managed to arrange a day for calling in to see the in-laws & exchange gifts.
Ok, I MUST finish this sleeve before we go out.

P.S Re. spending on gifts....my nephew was hoping for an X-box 1 for Christmas but my sister said it is too expensive for a Christmas present. There are games, plus a 2nd controller, etc, so his brother can play too. Nephew is saving hard to buy one himself. I think when he's got to a certain level of saving, he will probably get some help with the balance, which is a good way of doing it, I think. We always received plenty of presents at Christmas, including a ' big' present, but spending £400 or £500 per child just wouldn't have happened. I can remember certain tiny gifts I received every bit as well as I can remember my main present. Overall, as an adult, it"s actually the family traditions I most remember about childhood Christmasses - singing solos at carol concerts, staying up late to play card games for coppers, playing practical jokes on each other, Mum making tinsel wreaths from wire coathangers & real glass baubles, Nan arriving laden with tins of her baking etc. I'm not saying presents weren't important. They were. But it's the other stuff that has made the memories x
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

    Morning all,

*Free coffee at IKEA where we are calling in for tea lights. Not planning to buy anything else unless a useful affordable rugbpresents itself.

Our Ikea near Glasgow has stopped doing the free coffee. Now it's 35p coffee instead. :(

    • Clf rings NatWest. There is no direct debit instruction on the account and no money has left it.
    ???????????

I mean where do I go from here?!

If there is no direct debit instruction then the money has not left your bank for sure. If the direct debit had failed and been re-tried they would be able to see it at telephone banking. ( I used to work for RBS/NatWest telephone banking). To be sure ask NatWest to put what they've told you in writing.

I would put my bet on Vodaphone confusing your account with someone elses. Ask them to put the payment made details to you in writing.

Personally I would be inclined to change my mobile provider. These things have a habit of dragging on...but that might be a huge inconvenience for you.

Thanks Ally. Vodafone did confirm the direct debit details with me (acc number and sort code). If this does escalate, I shall certainly get it all in writing as you suggest.

I hope it won't come down to changing provider, but I'm certainly willing to if this doesn't get resolved in timely manner

  • Very amusing afternoon with OH. We are recordin an audio version of a much loved book from when I was little as a gift for my mum for Christmas.

Improvised a desk-top mic stand from OH's dumbbells and gaffer tape. Pop shield from old tights and a wire coat-hanger. Take that Abbey Road studios!

I'm making little cheesy pastry bites... My ready rolled pastry is 5 days out of date and so is the mozzarella! Will I survive?! :rotfl:
  • Just looked at my list. Ow how I failed miserably :rotfl: in my defence I've decided to go to shop tomorrow as I'm not going to do lots of food I've decided. I'll make some soup from a large BNS I have. I'll make some rolls in the bm tomorrow too. That'll save me a fair few quid as there's 8 of us. Plus doing a big spread when we'll all be together next Saturday and then Christmas Day is just too much.

I'll wrap some gifts shortly once DD1 has gone to bed. Must do prices and samples for 2nd job too. If I get it all done might try and use my new nail thing. Be back tomorrow x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hello again

Managed to find a pair of trousers that appear to fit the brief. Remembered I had a £1.01 balance on a h&m gift card so used that towards the £5.99 cost. Fingest crossed they last.

Found a 10p brand match coupon.

Had a simple tea of cheese on toast which was nice and cosy.

Wombled 2 reciepts worth 18 points in total.

Have to go and save OH from the baby hurricane, this time of night seems to be worst for her. Suspect trapped gas is to blame. Hope the neighbours have ear muffs :(
