Few people are that worried about boot time unless they have really old machines. Mine takes around 30 - 35 seconds from cold to desktop with W10, no SSD.
If it took another 30 seconds it would be fast enough to be honest. I turn it on once a day from cold, sometimes less if I've left it on overnight doing something. Nothing could be that urgent that I would gain from it being faster.
That said, I do agree that SSD is a great upgrade, especially now the sizes are increasing and prices are beginning to hit sensible territory.

I used to turn on my laptop and leave it on after I finished using it just in case I needed to go back on it because it took about 60 seconds to boot up and be ready to use. Now with my new laptop with an SSD (also being a lot more powerful) it boots up, I log in and I have the web browser open in less than 10 seconds. It makes it so much nicer to use because I know I don't have to wait 60 seconds if it's turned off.

SSD is essential? Odd that mine scores 7.1 on the windows test where my pair of standard 250gb drives (RAID) scores 7.3.

If you want fast bootup times use VM, although you need your main OS running.

If you want really fast get a Raspberry Pi. Thats quick. Cold boot into Kodi in a few seconds.

60 seconds...a whole one minute! Congratulations on being at the head of the queue of people with first world problems...:D
We only hear about fast boot times whenever the SSD discussion comes up, it's like no one can think of anything else to say about them.
I know they are the future of storage, but, to be honest, saving 50 seconds wouldn't be at the front of my requirements in buying one to replace my HDD. Boot time has been increased by W10 anyway and my desktop takes way less than a minute to boot..
That said, I would buy a SSD for all it's other attributes....;)

The Control panel is set to be replaced completely by settings in the future.
The OS is not made purely for you (however much we would all like to think they should ;)), so, MS have put in features that you may consider annoying but others use.
They are making most of their apps available on Android and IOS, so, rather than alienating anyone they are actually facilitating integration through many platforms.

Jeez ratty, they've really mind-f***d you over W10 haven't they?? :rotfl:

Whatever you think, it IS getting more onerous to do "under the bonnet" stuff, and the seeming push to have absolutely every device you own being fully synced with all your data is just a complete PITA.... I use different devices for different things, often with a different data set on each.... I don't want to be forced towards integration, especially with the security implications of both W10 and multi-device integration of data...

I agree about the burying of features in multiple layers, and about the Settings / Control Panel issue.

I hate Settings, as it uses a massive font which I can't make smaller i.e. to match the rest of the desktop.

The feature burying can often be worked around by learning keyboard shortcuts which, in most cases, have never been changed, or running stuff direct from the Run box.

    RR,

Glad you admit it ;) W10 is purely made for Microsoft's advertising and metrics ambitions. You will watch our adverts, you will buy from our App store and we will track you and sell it to advertisers.

And what the heck is "Edge"? From my perspective, it's a tool you can use to download Firefox.
Edge is Microsoft's new internet browser. It is the replacement for Internet Explorer, which is still available in Windows 10 by the way. If you prefer another browser then use that, just like with previous versions of Windows.

    Try "Godmode"
Create a new folder on the desktop then rename it

Pity that MS didn't just show that lot when you click settings.

I remember that from Win 7 but didn't bother with it then as finding stuff was fairly easy in those days.
