Uniform - I almost forgot the stout hard-wearing flat black lace ups and the 'house shoes' we had to change into on arrival in school. And the cookery aprons we had to make in needlework.

Another grammar school girl here...indoor and outdoor shoes with heel height specifications. We had to kneel down and have our skirts measured to check they confirmed to regulations for length. Velour hats to be worn at all times when out amongst the public.....those were the days !!!

    Tenth Anniversary
    Afternoon.

Interesting evening for me last night. DD17 and DS18 went to an 18th birthday party (her boyfriend, who happens to be DS best friend). Of course, the inevitable happened DD was bought drinks and at 10.15 (she only got there at 7.30!) my son was ringing me to see if I could collect her as she had been sick everywhere and was lying in a puddle of it.

I couldn't, as had had 2 glasses of wine. DS tried his Dad but he was out on his christmas works do. Then rang me back to say they'd found a lift and he would come back with her, then go back.

Boyfriends Mum sat in the back of the car with her holding a black bag to be sick in. Another family member was driving. She couldn't get out the car and DS basically got her out and carried her to her room (we live in a 3 storey house). Put her to bed, gave her a sick bowl, then went back to the party. :o

I was so embarassed, shes been with her boyfriend a while now but it was the first time I had met his Mum. She was absolutely lovely, I was mortified and kept apologising, she told me not to worry and everyone had been there! :rotfl:

Terrible nights sleep as I kept going up to check on her. She woke up at the crack of dawn, right as rain, no hangover. Came and apologised to me, gave me a hug, and when I told her that her room was a disgrace and she wasn't leaving the house until she'd sorted it (she is going over to boyfriends today) she cheerfully got on with it!

DS also managed to drink lots, not be sick and remain sensible, and even texted me when he got in to say he was home (although I heard him!). Not sure how I would have managed to get her upstairs without him, think she would have been sleeping on the tiled floor downstairs! :rotfl:

Hope its taught her a lesson, she absolutely hates being sick so hopefully will put her off drinking so much again. :D

Poor you, been there with both mine, ds propped up on the front wall by his friends parents, I was mortified when I collected him and dd has had a couple of incidents and yes I very nearly did leave her on the downstairs bathroom floor :D, oh to be young and stupid again :)

I remember struggling to school with my school bag over one shoulder, PE drawstring bag over the other and my wicker basket in the crook of one elbow, balancing my umbrella in my other hand.

First thing each year when we got our timetables was to check if cookery clashed with games.

Ditto. And the gaberdine raincoat as the final touch! The entire uniform felt like I was going around in a suit of armour. Plus all the baggage to carry as well!

If it snowed, we never got the day off. If there was no school bus running, you just had to put on your wellies and walk.

Same here but bottle green berets in winter and boaters with green ribbon in summer. Weren't allowed to take them off till we got home.

Heavy blazers that would stand up on their own...

And don't even start me on thick green knickers or bottle green knee length socks or gymslips 'bought to last' in the first year and therefore two sizes too big...

Best days of my life? I think not... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Indeed. She remembers having 2 bottles of beer, 2 bottles of wkd and 2 bottles of smirnoff ice, but I think the real damage was done when people started buying her jaegerbombs!

I think she is highly embarassed, she has apologised to boyfriends parents although they were fine about it (and she is over there now). I'm sure the whole experience will teach her something! :rotfl:

I don't post often as don't manage to get out to test out too frequently (and no asda for 20 miles!) but some confirmation of some wine matches from Tesco (and one that doesn't - forgot about the own brand not matching despite moneysupermarket saying it does!). Wine deals are worth dragging 2 x under 3's to the supermarket:beer: Hope this helps someone.

It's a learning curve,:D, I am fine really HB up from 65 to 74, so not exactly full of energy as you will know but looking forward to Christmas and hopefully no dramas, you seem to be on the slow road but heading in right direction now, hopefully no diversions for you either, take care:)

Did anyone else have to wear a school hat. Ours was velvety navy bucket type  It was soooo hot and we had to wear it even when out of school if we were in our school uniforms. Felt very silly in town. Thankfully they abolished them after my first year.

Seem to remember lots of the teachers wore their graduation gowns in school too. Suppose it saved their clothes from chalk dust.

We had to wear a navy beret in winter and a straw boater in the summer  Only first years ( or upper thirds as we were rather pretentiously called) had to wear them - what a waste of money.
