Mostly she is very sensible
But she has had a large pay rise recently, not quite sure exactly what she is being a bit coy about it - she has managed to save quite a lot already but I thought this was towards the inevitable house deposit - that now is def slipped further down the most wanted list
I just worry that now she has a good salary her spending has also increased - really she should keep spending at the same level and saving a good proportion of the new found wealth.
Also I feel that we are now the poor relations in the family

Congratulations, mhoc. Weddings are so exciting!
The wedding thread will help loads, but hopefully some glitch champagne and wines will appear on here.

Excitement - I just want a quiet life but with my gang some excitement or entertainment is always going on so I just go with the flow ...:rotfl:“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. An announcement
My eldest and her BF got engaged yesterday - he proposed on the steps of the minster :j
Big congratulations!:j:j:jHer initial figure is around £5 k - they don't want a wildly extravagant gypsy style wedding
she sounds sensible. So to save her stress I just transferred the money across and then we rang her back.
That is so thoughtful of you.OH asked her when we rang back if BF had had the conversation with his parents - don't think so.
But eldest child spoke to his mum and she said they had not talked about it yet - no idea why not because it was inevitable they would get engaged at some stage - but she said they would probably go with a 1/3 1/3 1/3 split
What happens if one side, or the kids, have no cash to spare?Bear in mind BFs dad is earning over £100 k a year and eldest child said he had saved 100k so far for his retirement -
I'm curious how you know what the in-laws earn. My kids don't know what we earn and I haven't a clue what DS2-GF parents earn.
If he has saved 100k for retirement is that one year's salary?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
