This is a story and a half.

Darren my son who recently went back to Tesco has a cat called Ted. He hadn t seen him since the Wednesday before Christmas. Ted come limping home at 9.30 Christmas Day evening. He phones me up and says he thinks Ted s broken his leg.

I told him to phone the vets out of hours place . At 10 he takes Ted to a place near Cheshire Oaks about 30 miles away. They keep Ted in overnight to check his leg and as he seemed dehydrated put a drip in and checked his kidneys. Darren gets home about Midnight and is in work for 7 am. This would have to be on the dearest night of the year.

Darren was told this would cost £470   and if it needs an operation a lot more. Luckily for Ted Darren has insurance. He does need an operation even though his leg isn t broken apparently . They think he s torn a ligament. Don't know how obviously.

Ted s now back home and is going to his local vets who don't open til tomorrow to see what they suggest.

The moral of this is make sure you have insurance.

    An announcement

My eldest and her BF got engaged yesterday - he proposed on the steps of the minster :j
They had their graduation ceremony there just over 5 years ago so it has great significance for them - un officially they have been together for 6 years including the extra year at uni.

So she rang us this afternoon and they want to get married sooner rather than later - not in the next 2 weeks obviously :D

Her initial figure is around £5 k - they don't want a wildly extravagant gypsy style wedding

She has organised numerous conferences and work based events both up north and in London so organising and negotiating a wedding will be an extension of the skills she has already learned but without the no holds barred budget :)

So to save her stress I just transferred the money across and then we rang her back.

OH asked her when we rang back if BF had had the conversation with his parents - don't think so.
But eldest child spoke to his mum and she said they had not talked about it yet - no idea why not because it was i:jnevitable they would get engaged at some stage - but she said they would probably go with a 1/3 1/3 1/3 split

Bear in mind BFs dad is earning over £100 k a year and eldest child said he had saved 100k so far for his retirement -

(Yes I know in the dark ages brides parents paid for everything but its 2016 in less than a week and mostly kids mostly pay for their own weddings now)

Any hints and tips for budget weddings which still look spectacular would be appreciated :)

Yay congrats to them both :T
My whole wedding cost came in at just over £5k. I refused to spend more than that. If I had the chance to do it all again I wouldn't change a thing either. We had a big church do followed by a big party and buffet (complete with massive bbq) in a school hall with everybody we love. I made all the centrepieces myself, the decorations were all put up by myself, friends and family. The invites I had printed out then jazzed them up with stick on jewels. We had a sweetie stall that I did myself- all the jars came from charity shops, the tongs and sweet bags were from eBay and I found a lady online who made up little cards with each sweetie name on. It looked amazing all set up. We payed a friend to run a bar for us, he bought all the booze from the cash and carry charged everybody the face value of it.
Everybody who came said it was one of the best weddings they had attended. The drinks were cheap, the food was fab and there was a whole lot of love in the air.
The only thing we never scrimped on was the photographer. I would have hated to look back at carp photo's. Even then I got a great deal with him. :D
If your willing to put in the leg work then it's defo possible to do it cheaper than the average. I couldn't fathom spending £20000 plus on one day. They say it's the best day of your life................ As much as I loved it. The best day's of mine was the day's my boys were born :heart2::heart2:

OMG I am going to have to knuckle down to some sort of diet after the next break - not that I've managed to loose any weight in the last 6 months even with concentrated effort ...

And then there is OH, a total lost cause -always looks like an unmade bed trashed through a hedge backwards - I dont pick honestly he can see if he is wearing a crumpled shirt or one with food or blood stains or frayed jeans on, it can be very embarrassing going to posh events with him ...
