Still see GT quite often as he is patron of a football related charity which my husband is a trustee of. He can speak for hours without a script about the glory days and has some great stories from that era.
Sadly football today is a completely different animal. I feel lucky to have experienced the "good old days."
As I recall, it was almost the end of the season, and winning the match at Vicarage Road would secure the historic promotion to the First Division. I was standing in the front of the Rookery, and about 2 minutes before the end of the match Watford scored. A load of us jumped over the wall and ran onto the pitch.
Graham Taylor came on to the pitch, grabbed my arm and shouted 'get off the f..... pitch'. As a youngish kid, I duly complied for the next few minutes until the final whistle, at which point hundreds of us again went into the pitch to celebrate in front of the main stand.
I also remember a 7-1 home win, can't remember against who, but the whole Rookery cheered the away fans when they scored.
Sounds like our paths might well have crossed back then !
Oh those wonderful heady days !0 -

And I picked up for free a wheat and gluten free carrot cake and millionaire shortbreads with my "free from Christmas" orchard vouchers.
I think I am a little too well sorted for deserts this year what with the at least half a dozen Christmas puds sat in the larder. :rotfl:
That is a heck of a lot of meat bubbs, can see that will be going a long way for your sister. :T0 -
