700 pounds to cancel with VODAFONE

I called Vodafone today to see if there was any way I could reduce my bill (change in personal circumstances) I was told there was nothing. So I asked what my cancellation fee was and they stated just over 700 pounds. It is quite some time until my plan is up April 2017. I understand that there would be a cancellation fee, but my annoyance was that there was not budging whatsoever. On reducing my plan or any other device. There is no such thing as a loyal customer any more. I have been a customer for about 9 years, and in the last two have been paying between 76.00 and 110.00 pounds per month to then for various devices. Oh well, lesson well learnt when my contract is finally up.

There will be a minimum term where thereafter you can reduce the price plan to a lower level.

If you want to cancel the agreement you'll have to pay off the remainder of the contract.

Thanks Ian001, yes I know, but it was the fact that there was no budging on my price plan at all as my circumstances have changed. I would not like to be in this situation if things were dire. Thankfully they are not.
  • When you enter into a contract you make a binding agreement. If you don't like the terms, don't do it.

Easy answer mobilejunkie - but circumstances do change in a person's life. All I was asking is if there was anything they could do. I fully understand contracts. But thank you.

So what lesson have you learnt?

    Never to sign another contract?

This is fairly standard across all the networks, you (as an adult) signed a contract to pay £xx per month for 24 months, it's not unreasonable to expect you to then pay £xx per month for those 24 months.

Vodafone is hardly being uncooperative or vindictive to expect you to keep to the contract you willingly signed.

I think the problem here will be the phone, what type of phone have you got on this contract, they want their money back for the handset i suspect that is why the termination amount is so high

they wont want the handset back as they cant do anything with a second hand phone

it may seem a bit harsh but good chance that is the reason that they wont budge

Oh Dave, you really have the wrong end of the stick hear. I fully understand the contract and payment. It was the fact the could not budge on my plan with the change in circumstances. Please don't write in this manner to me.

It is my own phone that I paid fully for. IPHONE 6. I think I emphasised to much on the amount for a contract end. I just wanted to see if there was any way to reduce my plan as I have a change in my financial circumstances. I just feel it is a shame that VODAFONE couldn't do anything for me to change my plans after being with them for over 9 years.
