And furthermore do people think the handset costs nothing for a network to buy in ? , All branded handsets like Apple and Samsung that carry a premium cost will be factored into a price plan hence the high costs involved here with contracts.
When ever I re-new my contract I do tend to go for the pay a chunk on the handset model to as it seems to bring down my monthly costs and I have exited a mid term contract before with a lot lower amount than you are stating here.0 -
an iphone 6 costs £459, how much did you pay OP?0
-
The OP has already confirmed the handset is his own - purchased outwith any tariff.
So the Op must have a SIM only plan. Vodafone don't offer 24 month SIM only plans. But Vodafone want some £700 as early termination.
Either the OP does have a bundled handset, or they've taken the bundle and sold the handset and used their own iPhone 6 handset.
None of it makes sense, I don't think we're getting the whole story here.0 -
Perhaps the OP paid £29 or £49 for his iPhone when he signed the contract, in his mind he has paid for the handset not realising it actually had a value of £539 at the time he signed up.====0

OP, do you not think that if they allowed you to void your contract early without penalty (or for a reduced ETC), then every single person who wanted to get out of their contract early would be claiming 'changed circumstances?
There are two get-outs only, which are death or bankruptcy.
A change in your financial circumstances, which is presumably your situation, does not count, however loyal a customer you believe yourself to be (a concept that no telcom company recognises anyway). No free lunch, and no free laptop

You could sell the iphone and use a cheap £20-£40 phone. That would help.0

A sensible option, I bet the OP wont go with this option though.0 -

you always state this and its simply not true, there's plenty of get out clauses for both the network and consumer if things change, with regards to costs and price increases etc etc0
