Why not just go for an Android tablet instead and cut that hassle?

You get Samsung Tabs for pretty cheap. If you're looking to spend around £100 then the Tesco Hudl 2 is great. For 7" the Amazon Fire is going for £45

Did you hit your head on the way to school?? How would a 7" Tablet be a substitute for a 15.6" screen laptop?
They asked for a Laptop, not a Tablet.

Nifty, only half daft as it sounds, 7inch is comically inadequate. There are some refurb Dell Venue 11s from £80 upwards:*

£80 with OS and wifi, 1yr RTB warranty.

I'm half tempted myself to pick one up for the play factor.

i5 version there as well but need to add OS and Wifi also available as is the FHD version of the Atom

review of I5 version, note not great battery life for a tablet for the i5.

No idea about this company though, the refurb quality or had my hands on the Dell Venue. Anyone used a Venue and care to comment ?

*Edit £80 one now sold out damnit.

Yes I hit it on you, and lost some of my intelligence as a result.

I never said anything about it being a direct replacement. Just that a tablet could be a less costly and more portable option.

Also, many laptops are going towards the detachable screen/ hybrid tablet mode anyway. It costs him nothing to look and it costs me nothing to suggest. Especially as I am now less clever for having hit my head against you.

The only person that could have been is that clown of a painter and decorator that arrived today and left before he did a single stroke of work, mumbling something about hospital.

So from a laptop that cost from £73 + VAT, you are now writing about hybrid Tablets.
Less costly and more portable? Where have they asked about a 'more portable' option?

As to him looking, mrscb is probably a woman. Though in fairness her husband is probably a man.
Your suggestion of an Amazon Fire or a HUDL instead of a laptop costing £90 is fairly ridiculous.....especially when the OP asked for a Laptop.

Don't neglect to add the VAT.

    More here

....and yes it was just as daft as it sounded. Asking someone to change from a laptop with Windows to a Tablet have the size with Android.

At least the DELL Tablets with Windows makes some sense.

jshm2 - did hitting your head also cause you to forget that Tesco have cancelled the Hudl2 with no replacement?
A small tablet is no replacement for a big laptop.

These refurb Lenovo Thinkpad X200 laptops at less then £90 are good value http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WINDOWS-7-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X200-Tablet-Laptop-Core-2-Duo-Warranty-CHEAP-Webcam-/370916356683
I got mine about 9 months ago and it has done well. No good for gaming but great for everything else. It comes with Windows 7 but I have since changed it to windows 10 and made it into a dual boot with Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon edition.

Just checking my replies and will clarify a few things :-)
I haven't made a decision yet as I AM a woman ( and yes my husband is a man)
It is definitely a laptop with Windows that I have been asked for.
Thinking of going down the easy route and getting it with 8.1 already installed by them.. ( then if anything isn't right it's not my fault)
 Am thinking of a new one:beer:
