tablet/wifi

Options
I can use my new tablet in eg. Wetherspoons and home (as there is wifi - ie I have a router at home).
Can I use it ANYWHERE where this a router/computer, eg someone elses home ?
Router = wifi - yes ?

If they have WiFi and they are happy for you to use it then yes. Best thing to do is just ask if they have Wifi and if so can you use it.
    Come on you Irons
  • Just remember to be careful about what websites you access and what personal details you give when on a public wifi system or a private one that you can't confirm is well set up and secure.

Q really is... If they have a computer, they have a router, so DO they ALWAYS have wifi, or does it depend /

(Sorry if that seems a really daft Q)

Of course i would ask permission

Most internet setups will include a router with WiFi capability but not everybody enables WiFi. It may be enabled by default but if they don't use it they probably won't know the password and you'd need to find it (usually on a label on the router).

Alternately get all your internet stuff done before visiting and then you could try talking to your friends instead of sitting with your head in a tablet the entire time making the visit pretty pointless anyway.

OK thanks. So password on router. How do I get this 'into' the tablet. There is a 'cloud' icon on tablet. Use this ?

It won't be that. How you do it depends on the tablet operating system. It will be in the instructions in any case. If Android go into settings (how varies by release) and then WiFi.

Settings is a good place to start, then Wi-Fi, then scan for Wi-Fi, select one, click connect and then it will ask for a password - just as it would have done on your home set up the first time you used it with your tablet or indeed in Wetherspoons or any public Wi-Fi.

    OK,, thanks all

When u say "select one", how would I know which is the home I am in. Was obvious in Spoons (and must have been in my home...), but when in someone elses....???

How would they "enable" wifi.? They would have no need to ? if they just used a desktop and had no smart TV etc.

Router >>> Wifi Turned on .
Router will have an ID could be BT1245 or WSpoon or fffbllloggswifi.
On the phones wifi settings you simply connect to the required router and enter the security password .Some locations may have wifi but not allow the public access others may require you buy something it varies .
BT users have access to the BT Openzone system ,O2 users have something similar .
The Cloud ( a company ) supply both free and paid for WiFi .
Asda Tesco and many more both have free WiFi usual is you open a web browser on the phone and it gives you information on how to connect and details required .

You know which one it is because you ask your friends if you can use their wifi. If they say yes, they will tell you the name of the network and the password.
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail
