Going to declare my Jan spends as £337.88/£420. I bought a box of wipes in Jan knowing I wouldn't need them until at least the middle of Feb, but have decided to declare them here as I spent the money in Jan.
Really pleased with my total as I wasn't sure how we'd get on with a new baby in the house :)

Have just meal planned for the next 7 days -
Wed - Cauliflower cheese with roasted tomatoes.
Thu - Meat & potato pie with veg
    Fri - Fish
    Sun - Roast chicken dinner
Mon - LO Chicken with either chips/potato cakes & salad
Tue - Curry (probably lamb rogan josh)
    Never make plans for Sat.

Now to do a shopping list for tomorrow. Wont plan the veg but will see whats looking good when we go. Hope to spend no more than £35 leaving me with some left for savings. Already have chicken, fish, and the pie filling in so will save a few ££'s there.
If I keep this up the freezers will be empty by October :rotfl:
    MARCH £62.38/250

FBO it's really not about anyone doing better than you. It's about you getting the best value you can from your money and living to within the budget you set for yourself. As you correctly stated your lifEstyle has changed you are now on high protein and have an extra doggy mouth to feed.
It takes a while to sort things out when changes happen.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think I'm just tired - I'm a self-employed accountant and its been a nightmare few weeks, so I've probably been treating myself more than usual, and going off menu plan. Also, DH has been working receiving shifts for 2 months (4 days 1300-2200, 4 days 0800-2100, 4 nights 2000-0800 (Or whenever he finishes!) This means we often end up eating at different times/different things, and if I'm home alone picking up a pizza while walking the dog is far too easy.

Going to do a proper plan over the weekend as DH does back to standard days 0900 - 1700 (Yeah right!) But at least Breakfast, lunch and dinner work and he is not trying to sleep at odd times.

Just 1 more tax return to complete.:T:T:T

I totally agree with you. It's not a competition but this thread is about us all helping each other to keep to our own budget and passing on thoughts and ideas that we've found useful.
Out of interest where do you buy your fruit? I'm currently shopping at Mr M's as the quality of fruit is good. But seem to be spending a fortune.
We get ours mostly from A*di. I am picky though, and check it over - sometimes raiding the box underneath if I can. I also get through it quickly though so not much chance of it going to waste :D

Another NSD here today but Mr T the morrow and probably a couple of bits in town. Should still be okay for budget though.

Hope you all have a thrifty Thursday

DH bought some specialist laundry wash for his jacket and a few bits from m&s. We had £2.50 left on a gift card so he used that. In all £13 spent, I've updated my signature. I'm hoping that that is the last spend of the month.

Feeling better. Very MS dinner using an old tin of condensed cream of mushroom soup. Split it between a veal stroganoff (fed 2 will do 1 more), and sauce for 4 beef olives which will do 2 meals for DH.

Split the YS smoked haddock (750g for £2.92) 7 portions. 2 whole DH meal size, 3 me whole me size, and 2 small tails for fish pie. All in the freezer for next week.

About to make a Quinoa and Berry Breakfast bake which will do tomorrow at OMG o'clock, and 7 portions for the freezer.

Does anyone know - could I substitute Quark, Light Philadelphia or 0%fat yoghurt for creme fraiche in a goats cheese and red onion tart recipe? Trying to make some easy snacks for DH to eat on the run, but I don't want to buy some specially.

  • Feeling very pleased with myself.
Total spend for January is going to be £111.50, which although 11.50 over budget this included sugar free biscuits for elderly Aunt, which accounted for £9.25.
Freezer looking a little empty but store cupboard not hit too hard.
    Onward and upward for February:)

Another nsd. Didn't organise a shop for the weekend in the end as we just don't need anything...will just sort a delivery for next week at some point for our first Feb shop.

So, only 4 grocery spend days for 1-31st Jan. :T and a lovely chunk of money to save. :j We still have a fridge full for the end of this week, and lots in the freezer too, so hoping for a good start to Feb when it starts next Monday too.

I still can't believe it's Feb. next week!

    Declaring £260.05 for Jan. :)

Keep plodding and planning everyone. Month on month, don't let the hiccups hold you back or a good month take your eye off the ball!
  • Evening! Popping on to post a spend today of £4.92 on some top up bits. I should be able to declare soon - Monday is the start of the new month for me and I'll have to get through the weekend without buying anything else if I declare now! I think everyone is doing really well.
