Does anyone know - could I substitute Quark, Light Philadelphia or 0%fat yoghurt for creme fraiche in a goats cheese and red onion tart recipe? Trying to make some easy snacks for DH to eat on the run, but I don't want to buy some specially.
Problem is that crème fraiche is full fat - made by adding a yoghurt bacteria to full milk so you need a full fat substitute, preferably a bit 'tangy'. You could mix double cream and sour cream half and half or use full fat Greek yoghurt. That tart sounds yummy :)

    Evening all :)

Work in the office today meant money spent on my catercard for lunch and coffee .. as previously stated, not putting that against this months budget. However, may shove £10 in next months to cover me off.

Today was not a NSD due to milk requirement ... so a £1.85 from us, meaning £5.96 remains :)

Posting this whilst DH randomly decides he is going to put a loaf onto bake in the machine!

Seriously .... how great is this buy in :):)

I'll need to put 20p in the coffee fund at work today but hoping apart from that it will be an nsd

Dh has lasagne left overs for lunch and I'll make a quorn and leek pie for tea.

    Have a good day all.

  • Only getting a chance to update totals.. been a very busy month.

    Total is £339/£300

bit over but I spent a bit on buying good quality reduced local meat that I would never buy at full price. No more spending until Monday which will take me into February. Going to stick to the £300 and see if I can do it this time. :)

    ...... I will try to keep under £200. ......

Not quite the end of the month but I don't have any opportunity to food shop again so i am at the end, having checked my CC and bank I have sort of failed. I spent £200.00!! However £2.41 of todays shop is stuff for next Christmas, I just forgot to separate it out before I paid. Semi-pleased with the end result.

    On to next month now...

Spends of £8.96 today on essentials and on easy meals for tomorrow evening.

Total so far for Jan is £171.12/£400, but I'll need to buy food for next week's menu plan so will declare Jan total on Sunday or Monday. :)

I'm very impressed with how well everyone is doing!
