Hope your dad is okay frugal in Shropshire. Sending you a hug.
I've updated my signature. I bought rather more fish than I had planned but I've made it into fishcakes and managed to make enough for three family meals. We are having some for tea and the others are already in the freezer. So that's two meals for February already sorted.
One week to go on this challenge then onto next month.

Yesterday and today were both thankfully NSDs, but tomorrow will be a spend day and from the look of the list it looks rather big. I don't mind as they've been reasonable shops so far and I'm finally starting to get through the tins in the cupboards to try and use everything up. I want to be a lot more in control of what I've got in, which means a jolly good use up session every now and then. So Saturday I put a gammon shank in the slow cooker with some onion & carrot trimmings, a bayleaf and some peppercorns, and about 3 mugfuls of water. It has made the most amazing stock and I've used half with one of my 5 tins of chickpeas and a leftover cold cooking chorizo sausage, and a shake of cumin, to make a glorious looking soup for the next 3 days lunches at work.

Tea tonight is mince and dumplings. Because somedays, you've just got to.

    (hugs to those in need)

  • Oh dear, not doing very well on my second month. Already spent £123 or £108. Thats just for me and the cat. Don't know where I'm going wrong. Will have to try and not spend anything at all next week.

Ended up going for a meal out tonight, as after a long afternoon I didn't fancy preparing the meal I had planned. From Feb I am going to include any food eaten out as part of my grocery spends in the hope it'll stop me from going off the plan.

Evening all :) A NSD from us today ...

Dinner went down a storm ... costed it out .. 61p per portion :) Not bad for haddock, leek & potato bake, green beans, broccoli and dwarf corn. (If I'd have paid full whack .. about £5 per portion).

DH and DD are fairly well engaged with the "game" for this week .. £7.81 to last us.

I do have to buy 400g tomatoes for DD's foodtech. And milk at some point.

Other than that, DD needs a snack each day (healthy and portable ...) she normally has a Fruesli bar (or similar) or a sandwich. Currently out of bread! She's ok for Mon & Tues. But the rest of the week is going to be challenging with the staple ingredients and time I have.

I'm thinking I can probably knock up a batch of blueberry muffins tomorrow night and that will suffice. Failing that I have some HM muesli which I can attempt to make into flapjacks. However, my flapjack attempts have rarely proved successful.

Then there's my lunch ..... I think this could be an inventive week ! DH is AOK as he has packets of flavoured cous cous which he'll munch on and DD has school dinners.

I'm going out to lunch at work on Friday, I'll take that out of my social money.

Which just leaves ensuring that DD and my ma have food for the weekend, whilst we're away. That has to involve a SM sliced white loaf of bread and weetabix (SM equivalent). Not a bad price for "baby" sitting!
